With Ben Affleck's return to the role of Batman up in the air at the moment, with reports of him opting out, fans have been suggesting people who they'd like to see take up the cowl. One of the most prominent fan-castings being Karl Urban, who is most well-known for his roles in the modern Star Trek movie series, Thor: Raganarok and appropriately, Dredd.

In an interview with JoBlo, on the topic of his favourite Batman film, he was made aware of the fan-castings and revealed that he's “open” to the opportunity, but admitted that he had not considered the possibility before. Here's the quote:

Oh, really? Wow. I don’t know. I haven’t really contemplated that. Usually the way the process works for me is I get sent projects, sent scripts and I read them, meet with the filmmakers and really on that basis choose to get involved. As far as Batman goes, I guess my favorite Batman movie was THE DARK KNIGHT. Chris Nolan is just an extraordinary director and I thought Christian Bale was a fantastic Batman and obviously with such talent like Heath Ledger that was the perfect comic book movie right there.

So, I don’t know, I’m open to any and all opportunities.

I say 'appropriately' at the mention of his film, Dredd, as it featured Urban administering justice whilst sporting a windowed-cowl and a deep, raspy voice. Sound familiar? For the film he had to learn to convey emotion without the use of his eyes, all while maintaining the intimidating voice. Urban's performance as Judge Dredd is without a doubt the most fondly remembered part of the film, and it's one of the reasons why fans have been so adament for him to take on the role of Batman. Another reason would be his clear, unequalled resemblance to Bruce Wayne.

Affleck is said to be reprising his role of Batman in the upcoming Flashpoint film, the standalone Flash movie featuring Justice League's Ezra Miller as its lead, which will likely be his segue out of the franchise. A report from December of last year stated that it's "highly unlikely" we'll see Affleck in Matt Reeves' Batman solo film. That means someone else will have to take up the mantle as the Caped Crusader, and I know just the guy for the job.

What do you think about Urban taking on the role of Batman? Do you think he'd be a good Bruce Wayne on top of that? Or would you prefer somebody else in the role?
