Last week, we learned that Riz Ahmed (The Night Of) was in talks for a major role in Sony Pictures' upcoming Venom spinoff and then on Friday, we caught word that the studio had set a 2019 release date for their Black Cat/Silver Sable spinoff, Silver and Black.
While rumors have been circulating for months about both projects, the studio hasn't been particularly forthcoming with details, save for the casting of Tom Hardy (Dunkirk) as Eddie Brock. When news of Ahmed's potential addition broke on Wednesday, many were quick to assume he had been cast as Cletus Kasady a.k.a. Carnage, who has been widely rumored to be the villain of the piece. However, later that same evening, The Tracking Board's editor-in-chief Jeff Sneider hinted that Ahmed may actually be in line to play another Spidey villain: The Chameleon.
Following the release date news on Friday, Sneider returned with another mini-scoop, revealing that his sources have told him that Ahmed's mystery character might also appear in Silver and Black, which, based on what we've heard about the film thus far, could mean the Chameleon rumors may, in fact, be true as it's unlikely Carnage would appear without Spider-Man or Venom. He also adds that fellow Spidey villains, Tombstone and Tarantula, are also expected to make their cinematic debuts in the Gina Prince-Bythewood directed film, which more or less confirms another rumor that surfaced last month.
