Three years ago today, Black Panther was released in theaters. The movie made history at the box office, earned widespread critical acclaim, and later became the first Marvel Studios title to earn a "Best Picture" nomination at the Academy Awards.

Since February 16th, 2018, Black Panther has become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring people across the globe. "Wakanda Forever" became a rallying cry, and lead star Chadwick Boseman was an icon even before his tragic death last year. His passing after a lengthy battle with cancer left us all reeling, but the amazing work he did will never be forgotten.

To mark the three-year anniversary of the Marvel Comics adaptation, the Marvel Studios Instagram account has shared some beautiful behind-the-scenes photos from Black Panther.

Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, and more are all highlighted here, and now is a perhaps a perfect time to revisit the movie. Director Ryan Coogler is currently hard at work on a sequel which will not recast T'Challa, and is instead expected to see another character adopt the Black Panther mantle.

We don't know who that will be, but there are plenty of rumours out there listing the possibilities.

Hard to believe this film came out 3 years ago, I was there opening night. Great movie. And RIP to the King.

[Speaking of Chadwick, I watched 21 Bridge last night. Chadwick did a really great job. Not a fantastic movie, but a really solid, good film that had me invested from start to finish.]

It’s crazy that the sequel is coming out in a year, and we still don’t know how they’re going to proceed without Chadwick. It seemed like Letitia Wright was a lock for leading the movie, until she broadcast some controversial anti-vaccine stuff on Twitter. Now Michael B Jordan is hinting that he might come back.

@santoanderson - I still can see Shuri become the next Black Panther, but I don't mind seeing Kasper Cole in the role either

@bkmeijer - I could see that I just wonder if its a bit too late to swing the story in that direction. Im also hope we see White Wolf at some point as well

@santoanderson - I think M'Baku taking over makes the most sense for the next film. I think we still need another movie before Shuri is ready to take on that mantle. If anything, they could probably start the film with T'Challa having passed, ceremonies celebrating him, and then Wakanda facing a power/ruler crisis that Namor exploits. Movie ends with Shuri proving she can rule.

Complaining because a studio is celebrating a groundbreaking film's third anniversary? God life must really suck.

It won't be the same without Chadwick, but I still really look forward to the sequel showcasing more of Wakandan and African culture (including the score)

@bkmeijer - me too. But I know they will dedicate the film to him, so that will be great, and I'm looking forward to spending more time in this world. Also, Namor [I hope]!

@bkmeijer - Same, the production and sound design and how its so rooted in african culture is in my mind enough to be excited to see more of let alone the promise of a continuation of the narrative
