Awards season has been something of a mixed bag for Black Panther , but things are looking up for the Marvel Studios movie ahead of the Oscars as it won both of the prizes it was up for at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Not only did it pick up the award for "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture," but the critically acclaimed solo adventure for T'Challa also nabbed "Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture." Both of these are pretty prestigious, especially when you look at the stiff competition Black Panther faced.
In the first category, it topped BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians, and A Star Is Born. As for the latter, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp all fell before the might of the King of Wakanda.
"I didn't think I was going to have to speak," Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman said as he accepted the award on behalf of the cast.
"We knew that we had something special that we wanted to give the world, that we could be full human beings in the roles that we were playing, that we could create a world that exemplified the world that we wanted to see. We knew that we had something that we wanted to give. I know that you can't have a Black Panther now without a 2 on it."
Director Ryan Coogler is returning to helm the sequel, which will more than likely be released in 2021/2022. Do you think Black Panther can win the "Best Picture" Oscar next month?

King T'Chaka
Now here's an awesome bit of casting. The younger version of King T'Chaka we see in Black Panther is played by Atandwa Kani, the real-life son of John Kani, the actor who played the character in Captain America: Civil War and shows up again here. It's a neat touch and one fans are sure to appreciate.
