BLACK WIDOW Looks Set For A Very Impressive $140 Million Opening Weekend

After several COVID-related delays, Marvel's Black Widow is finally set for release this weekend. The Cate Shortland-directed standalone adventure will premiere on the big screen and Disney+ Premiere Access simultaneously, but the streaming co-debut is not expected to have too significant an impact on the movie's box office takings.

According to Deadline, the industry’s global weekend expectation is as high as $140 million. This would easily give Black Widow the highest-grossing opening weekend of the "pandemic era," toppling current record holder F9. Though China - currently the biggest market for Marvel Studios movies - still hasn't set a release date, the film will be available in 46 major territories, including France, Italy, the UK, Germany, Russia, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Mexico and Spain.

Black Widow finds Natasha Romanoff "confronting the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Joining Johansson and Pugh in the new feature film are David Harbour as Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina."
