Much has been said about Marvel Television's plans for live-action series moving forward. VisionQuest will conclude the WandaVision trilogy this October, while Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is set to be released on Disney+ next Spring.
Beyond that, nothing has been announced. There are concerns that the Man Without Fear's TV series will be abruptly cancelled (again), with a shift to much cheaper animated shows aimed at a younger audience on the streaming platform.
Fortunately, we have a positive update from Puck. According to the outlet, "There are multiple live-action Marvel series in development for Disney+, with announcements expected soon."
Marvel Television is confirmed to host a panel at New York Comic-Con on October 8, so that could be where we learn more about these small-screen plans. There have been rumours about additional Special Presentations, but there's currently no word on who would feature in any future Disney+ projects.
However, The Wall Street Journal's Ben Fritz has said, "The era of prestige (and expensive) Marvel limited series is over after VisionQuest. But they'd certainly like to find a new live-action show with multiple season potential that's not closely tied to the movies and doesn't cost too much."
Back to that original report, it sounds a lot like the $2+ billion success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has not been lost on Disney or Marvel Studios (even if they have to share the web-slinger with Sony Pictures).
"Among all the news coming out of D23, the biennial event where Disney superfans pay hundreds of dollars to watch trailers, it didn’t escape notice that not a single new Marvel show was announced for Disney+," the site notes. "'I guess our plan is just Spider-Man!' one executive texted me on Sunday, half-kidding."
Disney receives some of the profits for the Marvel Studios-produced Spider-Man movies, but primarily benefits from merchandise sales. There are already rumours that Tom Holland's Peter Parker is Avengers: Secret Wars' lead hero, while Spidey being front and centre in the Mutant Saga—alongside the X-Men, of course—makes a lot of sense for an MCU many feel is struggling with "superhero fatigue."
Talking of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, some new images from the movie have been released today. Showcasing several spoilery moments from the blockbuster, they come as it gears up to remain #1 at the box office for the fourth weekend in a row.
