THUNDERBOLTS Star Florence Pugh's OPPENHEIMER Scenes Are Being Heavily Edited In Some Countries - NSFW

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer contains some (relatively) graphic sex scenes between Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh, and some countries are using CGI to cover the latter's naked body...

This is definitely going to anger Christopher Nolan... on more than one level!

The Dark Knight trilogy director’s latest film, Oppenheimer, is now in theaters, and the critically-acclaimed biopic contains some fairly graphic (at least for a mainstream release) sex scenes between Cillian Murphy's titular scientist and Florence Pugh's character, Jean Tatlock.

Now, it's come to light that these sequences have been edited in some countries in Asia. We're not sure what changes were made to the sex scenes themselves, but a CGI black dress has been added to one shot of Pugh sitting naked on a chair!

We thought this might be a fake at first, but it appears to be legit (you can check out an NSFW version here... purely for comparison's sake, of course)

Apparently, this version of the film now contains the only fully CGI shot that was utilized to bring the bleak drama to life.

The scene in question had already sparked controversy in India, because, at one point, Tatlock pauses during intercourse to ask her lover to read from the Bhagavad Gita (the iconic "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds" quote).

"The Bhagwad Geeta is one of the most revered scriptures of Hinduism. Geeta has been the inspiration for countless sanyasis, brahmcharis and legends who live a life of self-control and perform selfless noble deeds," India’s Information Commissioner and Save Culture Save India Foundation founder Uday Mahurkar said in a statement via USA Today. "We do not know the motivation and logic behind this unnecessary scene on life of a scientist."

Have you been to see Oppenheimer yet? What do you make of this censorship? Drop us a comment down below.

Full frontal with no mirkin?

@Goldboink - I felt the nudity was completely unnecessary. I love breasts don't get me wrong....but i don't understand why Florence needs to pull her tits out in a role that barely exists in the first place. Feels a bit exploitive but loved the film regardless.

@McMurdo -
We are going this week. No idea that nudity played a role in the development of the A-Bomb although I'm sure people were naked at some point in the process.

@McMurdo - The nudity was there to showcase how open and comfortable they are with each other - he emotionally connected with Jean in a way that he couldn’t with his wife.

@Goldboink - No "full frontal" of either actor you see the chest and the back but not the front. Whoever wrote that headline and made it circle the media was an idiot. Unless nips/chest and sitting cross legged is considered full frontal now lol.

@McMurdo - Dude, we have shows like Euphoria, where grown men and wine moms create shows with young actors playing teenagers and waving their dicks around on camera. That's exploitative (and disturbing, to say the least). Showing two grown adults have conventional sex would not be exploitative even if we were still in the 1940s.

@Vigor - I guess Pugh and Nolan felt differently. You can damn sure guarantee that if Pugh didn't want to do it then it wouldn't have happened. Those days are over. On a side note, just saw Boyd Holbrook's bare ass on the new Justified series, for no good reason, either. Hollywood people! Am I right? Lol.

@IAmIronGland - if a renowned director like Nolan asked me to show my ass on screen, I'm showing my ass. So I'm not surprised that Pugh said yes. But after having seen the movie, I struggle to see the justification for it.

I believe it's the only reason the movie is rated R. It could have been pg-13, and net more potential money without the nudity. The nudity doesn't impact the story. It just makes you feel uncomfortable when you go see the movie with family lol

@Vigor - Totally understandable sentiment. You always have to be careful taking families to any R rated films, though. I remember greatly enjoying watching the first few minutes of Deadpool in a theater filled with little kids. The place cleared out a bit. Lol. Different times. My aunt took me and my cousin (ages 11 and 10) to see Halloween II in '81.

@McMurdo - I think it because of the way he feels w/ Jean. It was open and free and not like a typical marriage at that time like he has w/ his wife.

Fine with me. I saw no need for R-rated content in the otherwise Excellent Film. SHoulda just made it PG-13.

@Lem1 - as an avid enjoyer of titties, I can agree they were totally unnecessary (yet welcome) in the film. You are right that without the nudity the movie could have been pg13.

@KaptainKhaos - I don't get their opposition to nudity in rated R movies. Yes we should protect kids from being exposed to graphic sexuality before they are ready for it, which is why there are no boobs in PG movies. But this is ridiculous.

KaptainKhaos - 7/24/2023, 2:22 PM
@hainesy - Government overreach at it's finest.

Honestly kids are going to find that stuff anyways, better to educate the difference between what they see on screen and reality then go through ridiculous lengths to hide it

soupysales - 7/24/2023, 4:31 PM
@KaptainKhaos - i would say, conservative, religious overreach. the mpaa is not a government entity...and i would rather kids see nudity, than a bunch of violence, and people acting so disgusting towards each other, with little to no regard for life...everyone has bits and pieces (obviously, nudity being a different thing from sexual activity)

Hell of an experience watching those scenes in a room full of people , some of which are your family haha.

I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy them though 😏.

Anyway , I need & want to watch it again but I did like the movie on my first viewing atleast.

It was a weird moment to quote from the Bhagwad Gita though

As someone who saw The Piano with family, and was sitting between my 84-yr-old grandmother and my pervy uncle when Harvey Keitel stuck his head under Holly Hunter's dress . . . I can relate to this.

Don't think this will make much of a difference in the long run.

I also don't think that would the ONLY CGI shot in the film. There is a shot of the world being engulfed in flames on a planetary scale which I will assume is CGI and there is another where water drops are superimposed on a map where they are planning the bomb drop. That lokked CGI to me. It is quite amazing that a film of this scale has so little CGI overall. Just a masterful film!
