Does BLACK PANTHER's Ring Possess Any Special Abilities?

One-half of the Russo Brothers answers a fan query about whether there's any special properties or magical abilities contained in the Vibranium ring T'Challa inherits following T'Chakas untimely death.

There's a popular theory that the ring T'Challa inherits from T'Chaka has unspecified magical abilities with the clue being T'Challa's seemingly surprised face when his ring comes into contract with Bucky's metal arm.

Anthony Russo, one-half of the sibling director duo responsible for The Winter Soldier, Civil War and forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War, recently answered a fan question on Quora on this very subject.

Said Russo, "Black Panther’s ring is special to him because it was worn by his father, the king. When he puts it on for the first time in Civil War, it’s symbolic of him taking on his father’s role. As for it’s powers, we will all have to wait for the Black Panther movie."

Admittedly, whether the ring has any special abilities isn't truly clarified by his answer and it seems that was precisely the elder Russo's intention.  It's very likely he and Joe already have the answer and have collaborated with Ryan Coogler, the solo director of the BP film.

To our knowledge, the comics have never shown T'Challa wielding a magical ring but if there are any Black Panther aficionados who know otherwise,  inform us in the comment section below.

yeah i was wondering what was hinted at in that scene with him and bucky fighting, some weird sound was coming off the ring when it was close to buckys arm

It repelled Bucky's arm because, I think, its antarctic vibranium.

Antarctic vibranium emanates vibrations which cause the atomic and molecular bonds in nearby metals of other kinds to weaken, which results in the liquefaction of nearby solid metals. Bucky's arm seemed to become weakened when it came into brief contact with the ring.

@ComicsBornAndBred - I had thought that moment was just them having a mutual mid-fight "you're strong" moment, but I'll bet you're right.

So far Vibranium has been made into Cap's shield, Vision's body, and those Ultron gravity pumps in Sokovia. Is there anything it can't do?

@Spock0Clock - Its the most valuable resource on earth for a reason lol.

I thought it was a "you're strong moment" moment too until I really looked and listened and the arm seem to be repelled as the ring came into focus. T'Challa was surprised at this as it was his father's ring and he'd never used it before

@ComicsBornAndBred - More precisely, I think they'll give MCU Wakandan Vibranium some of the properties of Marvel Comics' Antartic Vibranium.

It would be a little weird that the guy with billions of tons of vibranium in his backyard would go to Antartica to get some.

I think T'CHALLA just realized Bucky's arm is vibranium. Antartic vibranium is possible though because after all the Wankandans wouldn't have given the Soviets vibranium. Unless they stole it obviously, like klaw did.

@TheBeard - Iron Man's repulsar blast wouldn't melt Vibranium, though.

@TheBeard - antarctic repels and liquifies all metals
