We recently learned that Blade director Bassam Tariq had decided to exit the highly anticipated Marvel Studios reboot. Since then, there have been lots of reports about what that means for the movie, with claims about supposed issues with the script and rumours of growing frustrations behind the scenes due to Kevin Feige being stretched thin.
Originally, the plan had been for cameras to begin rolling in November. With the script supposedly undergoing a rewrite and no director attached, that seems highly unlikely, and multiple outlets are claiming production has been pushed back to January.
That matches recently reports about a casting call that suggested applications are no longer being accepted due to work not starting on Blade until the spring. However, with a November 3 release date, Marvel Studios needs to hurry up or they risk another wave of Phase 5 release date delays.
At this stage, Blade being released as planned next year does seem unlikely, a shame considering the fact we've been waiting for this movie since it was first announced at Comic-Con in 2019.
It's certainly an interesting time for Marvel Studios and there's no denying that there's been a slight dip in quality during Phase 4. All these additional stories being told on the small screen appear to be the main issue, and a lack of connectivity during this phase of movies and TV shows has frustrated many fans.
It was recently claimed that the original plan for Blade was for it to be primarily set in the 1920s with the Daywalker squaring off again European vampires. It sounds like the action was going to jump to multiple periods, potentially meaning the story would follow him into the present day.
Do you think Blade will still be released as planned next November? Let us know your thoughts on that in the comments section.
