Blue Beetle was once destined to be an HBO Max-exclusive movie alongside Batgirl, but when Warner Bros. leadership changed, so did plans for the DC Extended Universe.
Now, Blue Beetle is getting a theatrical release this summer, though we're still no closer to knowing whether this version of Jaime Reyes is the last time we'll meet a new DCEU hero or the first time we're meeting a new DCU one. We're guessing the box office will decide that, and today sees the release of two new motion posters.
You can watch those in the Tweet below or scroll down for a couple of screenshots, but we're sure you'll agree they're very cool. As well as highlighting Blue Beetle's impressive supporting cast, we see more of the title character in action (including his battle with Conrad Carapax).
With The Flash just over a week away, we're guessing a new trailer for the movie could be imminent. Nothing has been confirmed quite yet, so keep checking back here for the latest updates as we have them.
In Blue Beetle, recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab.
When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero known as Blue Beetle.
The movie stars Xolo Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén, with Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez. Angel Manuel Soto directs from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
Blue Beetle arrives in theaters on August 18.
