Captain America: New World Order is shaping up to be a big movie, with The Leader making his MCU return and Harrison Ford lined up to debut as the new General "Thunderbolt" Ross.
Steve Rogers has passed the mantle to Sam Wilson, and the former Falcon now has to wield the shield as one of this world's most important superheroes. During a recent interview with Kevin Polowy, Anthony Mackie addressed how his Cap will differ from his predecessor (Steve, not John Walker).
"I think with my Cap, he's not a superhero. He doesn't have a super serum. So his superpower is his humanity," the actor says in the video below. "So I think with him, he has to come to the stage with a very different understanding of what it is to be a good guy or bad guy, and what are the decisions that make you tow that line in the way that you [do]."
"So I just see him as more of a humane Cap, as opposed to a distinctive...a Cap of judgement. Where this is right and this is wrong. There are decisions that make you choose right or wrong."
Joking that he's going to give Ford a "full breakdown" of the MCU's complicated history when they meet, Mackie would go on to reveal, "We start in about a month. We're just kicking it off, and everybody's getting squared away and ready to go."
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier did an excellent job of establishing Sam as the new Captain America, and we're definitely intrigued to see how his story continues with a solo movie.
And while we want the spotlight to remain on the new Cap, this might be a good opportunity for Marvel Studios to also reveal whether Steve is alive, dead, or otherwise engaged!
Captain America: New World Order is set to be released on May 3, 2024.
