CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Directors Tease SPIDER-MAN's Relationship With IRON MAN Moving Forward

We obviously already know that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it sounds like his relationship with Peter Parker could be even more significant than first imagined...

We've known since the release of that much talked about trailer that Spider-Man will be #TeamIronMan in Captain America: Civil War, while the news that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming made it clear these two will be spending quite a bit of time together moving forward. It's a friendship which makes sense though, especially when you look back at the comics.

Talking to IGN recently, Joe Russo explained what it is that makes their Spider-Man so unique and had this to say in response to the interviewer mentioning that the scenes between Peter and Tony are a highlight and his hopes to see that relationship continue. "Absolutely, and it's going to. I think Downey is officially signed on now to Spider-Man: Homecoming, and I think that's what so fun about it. That's what's different in terms of this interpretation of Spider-Man. Two things: one, is that we cast an actor who is very close in age to a high schooler. Tom is really the first young actor to portray the part, and he has an incredible vulnerability and a certain confidence married together that create this very youthful and exciting character. Two, the other thing that's compelling is he's now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he can interact with the characters in that universe."

As for how we should expect to see things between Peter and Tony evolve, he added: "I think that this mentor relationship that Tony has developed with Peter Parker is probably one of the most interesting things the universe has moving forward." Iron Man being a mentor to Spider-Man is an interesting (and to be expected) dynamic, but does it mean we'll only see Downey Jr. appear out of the suit in order to give the young hero some advice, or should we look forward to a full on team-up? Time will tell, but let us know how you want to see this play out in the comments section below.

I have only seen the TV Spot where he confronts Bucky and I am already certain it's the best Spider-Man in film ever

@DoomBot666 - the 30 minutes in Civil War are better than the 5 Sony movies put together.

After seeing CW it makes perfect sense for Stark to be in Spidey's movie and the complaints about it (mostly from trolls) are baseless

keep Tony Stark, don't throw Captain America in. Spiderman universe is so rich they can add some other characters.

@jerryblake - No way they use Cap again until Black Panther

I can't believe anyone ever doubted that Marvel's Spidey would be the best interpretation yet. This not being so was quite simply an utter impossibility.

Cap should also be a mentor. I'd also like to see Spidey being trained by Shang Chi someday.

On;y aspect that i disliked a little about the whole 'mentor' situation was that Spidey didnt really question things or make the decision himself, and i'd like him to make his own decision during his movie next year.

Just so that he's his own character rather than following Tony.
