Chadwick Boseman Teases 'Black Panther' Allegiance And 'T'Challa''s Accent In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Captain America: Civil War star Chadwick Boseman talks here about why Black Panther doesn't pick a side, what accent he'll be using to portray the Wakandan "prince", and much more. Read on for details!

We still don't know an awful lot about what to expect from Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, but Empire Magazine (via What Culture) has thankfully shed some light on that today. Despite the fact that we've quite clearly seen the hero on #TeamIronMan, actor Chadwick Boseman maintains that his role in the movie is a little more complex than it appears. "It’s my political mission to tame it and get it under control," he says of the conflict between The Avengers. "T’Challa is a prince of Wakanda. All heroes have a weight on their shoulders, but there will eventually be a difference in what I have to carry politically and socially."

The actor refused to reveal whether T'Challa has undergone the process of gaining superhuman powers through that mystical ceremony and wouldn't shed any light on whether magic factors into his powerset in any way, but he did at least weigh in on his take on the prince, specifically touching on the accent he'll be using. "The idea of Wakanda is sort of, what if Timbuktu hasn’t been conquered? I basically listened to people and picked what sounded cool, since it’s not a specific place. It’s in the southern, central part of Africa. The attitude, the musicality, as is my preference of the character. It has to fit his dignity."

Co-director Anthony Russo also weighed in on Black Panther, stating: "He's an emblem and a representative of his country in the way that Captain America is, but in a different way too. Cap is an everyman who became elevated because of his virtues and Panther is a prince. So it's an interesting contrast." Joe meanwhile had nothing but good things to say about handing over T'Challa to Creed's Ryan Coogler for the character's upcoming solo outing. "He's dynamic, he loves the character, he's such a great choice to direct that movie." What do you guys think about these comments? As always, let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

I do hope they can get Black Panther right. I'm glad the MCU is moving towards deeper films, rather than the simpler stories embodied by IM, Ant-Man, Guardians, etc. The Russos have left a great mark on Marvel.

But I am confused. Black Panther is trying to resolve the conflict? Why? And why then does he show up on Tony's side?

So it's confirmed that T'Challa's dad is alive. They say he's a "prince" here. So Bucky didn't kill his dad. He must've done something else to piss off BP.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Or maybe T'Chaka dies in the film?

He mentioned that T'Challa/Black Panther is still a prince, so his father is still alive? Huh, I wonder who they're going to cast for T'Challa then.

@DeusExSponge - I remember his uncle being King for a time so that's my guess. I honestly wouldn't mind T'Challa remaining prince of Wakanda.

Also, I'm pretty sure the whole "magic is just science we don't understand" reasoning is what's going to drive a lot of phase 3. I'd say that's the route they're gonna take.

@PeterStarker - I feel like they might actually backtrack and be like "well...magic is actually magic" haha. I HOPE BP keeps his mysticsm like in the comics. Just something we've never seen in this universe.
