Yesterday, the news broke that Marvel Studios has tapped Moon Knight consulting producer and writer Matthew Orton to pen additional scenes for Captain America: Brave New World.
There have been rumblings about issues with the movie for a while now and, while reshoots are the norm for MCU projects, the fact this follow-up to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has moved from 2024 to 2025 suggests a great deal of work is needed to get it where it needs to be.
In terms of plot details, very little has been confirmed. However, based on set photos, we're expecting Sam Wilson to find a new ally in Joaquín Torres's Falcon and to clash with both the Serpent Society and Red Hulk (with The Leader pulling the strings somewhere in the background).
Despite talk of Captain America: Brave New World setting the stage for a World War Hulk project, scoopers @CanWeGetToast and @MyTimeToShineH have cast doubt on that by today claiming She-Hulk will not appear in the movie.
They've also both debunked recent rumblings that Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Bucky. This is a shame, of course, but She-Hulk is expected to get a second season on Disney+, with Bucky returning in Thunderbolts.
"There’s a huge amount of pressure," Anthony Mackie said earlier this year about headlining his own Captain America movie. "You throw my dumb ass in the water, and you’re like, ‘Swim.’ I'm like, ‘Sh*t.’ But at the same time, it’s all in the state of mind. I’ve been given a great cast. I’ve been given a great group of people who I’ve worked with before."
"It’s more so about his ability to connect and counsel" the actor added of his approach to Cap. "He’s not as rash to bear arms as Steve Rogers was. Having a super serum makes you impossible to beat, so your answer to everything is to fight it out. Whereas Sam Wilson can actually die pretty easily."
"[Brave New World] picks up pretty much right after [The Falcon and The Winter Soldier], with Sam back in the fold of, How do I fit into this superhero world?"
Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it.
Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.
