Anthony Mackie Pretended Nick Fury Was Falcon's Dad In THE WINTER SOLDIER

Apparently Anthony Mackie created a fake subplot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier on the set as a joke that went a little bit too far. Check out what the Falcon star has to say after the jump...

According to Anthony Mackie, his character in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Falcon, is actually the son of Co-Star Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Or at least according to a joke he came up with on set to make himself laugh all based on the fact that both characters are black with goatees. But Sam Jackson didn't seem to think it was that funny. Luckily Marvel won't take this idea too seriously and everything will be fine. The 35-year-old actor said "In this movie, it's the first time we were opposite each other and I had my goatee, he had his goatee and he just looked like my dad. So I called him 'Dad' for the entire movie." On how Jackson felt and how he approached him with the joke, he said "Like, there's this whole subplot I put in there where Nick Fury is The Falcon's dad. Every time he would come on set, I would go 'Dad?' and he's like 'Shut up!'" He also discussed his scenes where Falcon would have to fly and how he would film it. "It was a four-point harness system," he explained. "Basically, they put you in a girdle-for-a-man with thigh-guarders and they put four picks on you with string… they can put you on a track and make you go forward, make you go up in a loop… it's crazy. If you're a nauseous kind of guy, you can't do it." You can catch Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is out now!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

I was worried he'd be like the persona he was putting forth in interviews, which was WAY enthusiastic. I was pleasantly surprised at his performance in this film though.

He was the unofficial press agent for this film over a year ago.

Mackie is my fave in the movie. His charisma and relationship with Cap is exactly what IM3 was missing with RDJ & Don Cheadle.

I kinda see what you're saying, but MBJ has so much more range than what Mackie has from what I've seen the both of them in.

Mackie gives the BEST interviews! He was made to play Falcon no doubt. His addition to TWS was perfect and I can't wait to see more of him onscreen. Really wish he would've got an AOU appearance, but it's cool.

@Destined

I'm still hoping. Do we know for sure, 100% he ISN'T in AOU?
Destined
Destined - 4/9/2014, 3:42 PM
@ruadh he has said several times they haven't contacted him. But now I'm wondering even if he was, would he even say so because of how Marvel roll? Knowing Mackie yes lol. But honestly I really don't think he's going to be in it. Though it's going to be interesting to see where they show Cap at for AOU since TWS has him going on the hunt. You would think Falcon would be in it with that ending alone, but I hope he's at least mentioned or something.
