Anthony Mackie Shares How He's Preparing For CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Promoting his latest indie film titled 10 Years, actor Anthony Mackie talked with CS.net/SHH a bit more regarding his role in Marvel's Joe & Anthony Russo-directed sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Precisely sharing how he's preparing for the role of Sam Wilson, better known as Falcon, Mackie told the blog that he'll soon begin training, even though filming doesn't begin until half a year from now.

In addition, The Hurt Locker actor revealed that he has stacks of 1970 ‘Captain America’ comics by Steve Englehart, who truly helped identify the Falcon. Adding that he finds the “fact that Sam Wilson moved to L.A. to become a drugdealer and a pimp” interesting, Mackie's uncertain how much of that backstory will make it on the big screen. And that's mainly because he's yet to read anything from the script, which is being penned by original Captain America scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Lastly, Anthony Mackie reiterated that he's taking the role, which is Marvel's first real African-American superhero, very seriously, dubbing Sam Wilson/Falcon iconic.



Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continues his affiliation with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. With an expected return from James 'Bucky' Barnes (Sebastian Stan), actor Anthony Mackie is also set to star. And Anthony & Joe Russo (“Community,” “You, Me and Dupree”) take over directorial duties from Joe Johnston, who helmed the first film. And “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4, 2014.

the pimp/drug dealer part of his origin will be removed from the film,unless disney have got the balls to keep it in.

whats his ultimate origin? they may go for that.

I'm not a big fan of Engleharts Retcon of Falcon as a pimp..That really has always seemed a little racist for me.. A social worker who helped people, changed to a drug dealer and a pimp? I mean come on!!!

Please keep the social worker back story, or just the Ultimate back story Marvel!

I doubt they'll even give him an origin story in the film. He may just work for shield and be a partner to cap like Bucky. Although he may play a key role, the primary focus should be on Cap and Bucky

Damn, I just realized that they've recruited a big chink of the Hurt Locker cast in the MCU. Renner, Mackie, and Pearce... okay well that's it. Not as big a chuck as I thought.

The fact that there sending all the actors in training and the actors themselves are taking it seriously, I dont see why anyone should worry. If some of you guys are that worried, you should check out "you, me, and dupree". Not an action movie, but the best movie I seened that year. Russo bros are ace. Btw, awesome falcon pic.

They're not referring to the first African American Marvel superhero that had a movie or was in a movie. They are referring to the first African-American superhero in the comics. Falcon's first appearance was 1969. Blade was 1973. Luke Cage was 1972. Black Panther was an African superhero, so technically he was the first black superhero appearing in 1966, but not the first African-American superhero.

Falcon was the first black major black superhero without the word "black" in his name. He broke stereotypes left and right, an was an equal partner to Captain America in every way in their comic book. He was groundbreaking and remains iconic or that reason.

And let's not forget that, for a good few years in the 1970s, the comic in the newsstands wasn't "Captain America". It was "Captain America and The Falcon".

There's a lot of history between the two characters and it would be good to see man-out-of-time Steve Rogers come to befriend a modern African-American, so he could see and learn more through somebody else's eyes and experiences, and thus add to his sense of being out of time.

There's a lot of potential there to make a stunning film with the current talent attached.

I just hope they go for the Ultimate Universe look but keep the 616 bird. That bird could be way cool.

Wow. This is going to be one hell of a challenging adaptation to film. You got two really goofy comic book costumes and an army of potentially pissed of geeks like me to contend with. I thought Caps Avengers outfit was pretty nails but most of you guys still shit all over it so I can only imagine the uprising that will ensue once we see the Falcon. Personally I hope he looks more like a superhero, but I got a feeling they'll go with the Ultimate look.
