We all love how they've adapted the Cap Costume for the World War II era, don't we? Well, Marvel let's us in on how it came to be...
In their article (with the same title as this one), they've said that once the Cap suit debuted at the SDCC 2010 Marvel Studio made use of the feedback they got from there to make improvements.
That was our first time putting Chris [Evans] in the uniform, so it was important to see how fans would respond to the image,” said Suit Modeller Patrick Whitaker. “There was a remark that the wings on the helmet were missing; they were cleverly brought in with a stencil on the side [of the helmet].
A concept sketch by artist Ryan Meinerding was used as a guideline but several changes were made.
Creating the image exactly wouldn’t work from a technical standpoint,” Costume Designer Anna B. Sheppard said. ”The suit had to be functional as well as look the part. Every detail counted; every millimeter meant something.
Chris was filming another movie, so I only got to see him twice [to fit him for the suits],” Sheppard said. “We had two casts of his body to use for fittings, and there was a lot of anxiety about how it will feel, work, and look when he wore them. I have to say [Chris] was pleased. I think after he tried his USO uniform on he was relieved he looked so manly!
