THE MARVELS: Disney Confirms The Identity Of Two Villains - Here's Everything You Need To Know About Them!

Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for The Marvels yesterday that gave us our first glimpse into the upcoming sci-fi adventure and Captain Marvel sequel!

Carol Danvers will once again find herself battling the Kree Empire, with Zawe Ashton presumably playing their new ruler. She is, after all, wielding a hammer similar to Ronan the Accuser's and wearing a bangle that looks nearly identical to what activated Ms. Marvel's latent mutant abilities.

Now, Disney has confirmed the identity of Ashton's big bad as Dar-Benn. There were rumours this was the case, of course, but the character doesn't have much of a history on the page.

First appearing in 1991's Silver Surfer #53, Dar-Benn was joint Emperor of the Kree Empire alongside Ael-Dan before being killed by Deathbird the following year in Avengers #345.

We also have confirmation that Daniel Ings has been cast as Ty-Rone, a Kree advisor who, as far as we're aware, has been newly created for the MCU. There may be an obscure comic book character who shares that name but no one of any real consequence that we can find!

You can take a closer look at both villains below.

In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.

Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."

The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.

Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

The Marvels arrives in theaters on November 10.

Kinda wish they went with a bigger villain. Think Deathbird would've been really cool

@bkmeijer1 - after seeing the mention of Deathbird, it was odd to me too for them to not go with that choice

@Slotherin - I guess they don’t want to get into the shiar yet?

@noahthegrand - makes sense. Though this would seem like a decent time given the introduction of mutants.

Ty-Rone? You make up a new Kree for the movies and call him Ty-Rone? They couldn’t have pulled out another Z lister like Dar-Ben to adapt? They couldn’t have squeezed together 2 syllables that don’t form a human name?

The villains in this movie are likely not going to be a big impact to the overall MCU I’m guessing.

@mountainman - That might be considered cultural appropriation. :)

@TyrantBossMedia - That guy doesn’t look like any Tyrone I’ve ever met that’s for sure.

@TyrantBossMedia - Also, completely off the top of my head, here are 5 Kree sounding names I made up that could have worked better:

Kol-Sarr
Ged-Mar
Zel-Rok
Tof-Bade
Pab-Reax

@mountainman - See my post below for some actual comic book villains they could have used.

Any of those names you gave sound better,

It's a minor character so I guess who cares a bout a genderswap but I feel it's a shame they don't lean into preexisting female villains more.

Also, Ty-Rone... lol

@Slotherin - Hell just Moonstone would be good.

Am I alone in feeling like we've been getting a string of Marvel stuff now that feels like a joking atmosphere? Everything has that Ragnarok/Guardians/Love and Thunder/Quantimania/She-Hulk vibe of everything's is a party now?

Like even the trailers are pop-y and spastic like a sugar rush fever dream with MCU humor jumping at you every transition.

Remember when basically everything in the MCU was serious? Iron Man was about a deeply psychologically wounded mega genius who's every characteristic is a reflection of his trauma, or Hulk the tortured scientist on the run, or Captain America the scrawny nobody who turned into a legendary Hero..... this is what built the MCU, the GOATs who set the table, and now all these MCU outings feel tonally artificial and made for simple minds who like bright colors and virtue signaling.

I remember when we got good Marvel stuff.

@TheVandalore - You are correct.

That was back when Feige had to answer to Perlmutter.
Ever since Feige was left to his own devices the complexity of our heroes disappeared.

@TyrantBossMedia - it feels like early MCU was the golden age of video games, and the current MCU just feels like Fortnight.
