According to Variety, Jude Law is in negotiations to join Brie Larson in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie as the male lead.
Though his character is not named in the report, Law is said to be playing "a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers." This had led to speculation that he'll actually be Mar-Vell, who we had previously heard would be making an appearance.
The trade also confirms that Ben Mendelsohn is officially on board as the villain of the piece.
Captain Marvel is set to fly into theatres on March 8, 2019.
UPDATE: Variety has now confirmed that Law will indeed play Doctor Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell - the original Captain Marvel. Apparently, Keanu Reeves was offered the role but passed.
