COMICS: Another One Bites The Dust. Marvel Now Plan On Ending Daken: Dark Wolverine!

The casualties keep on coming! Yet another Marvel comic book will be coming to an end sometime in the near future, with Axel Alonso confirming that Daken: Dark Wolverine will be joining the recently cancelled Black Panther...

It was only yesterday that we learned of Marvel's plans to cancel Ghost Rider and Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive and Comic Book Resources have now learned that Daken: Dark Wolverine is to be added to the ever increasing list of cancelled titles. Talking to the site, Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso revealed that the series (penned by Rob Williams) will come to an end sometime in the near future, with February's issue #21 the beginning of the end.

On the recent cancellations he said: "It’s always disappointing when a title comes to an end. I’ll bet everyone reading this column still mourns the death of a title or two they loved – and wonder why the book didn’t stick. And I guarantee you that as frustrated as a fan might be, there’s a writer, artist and an editor who are even more disappointed. That’s just the way things go sometimes. The market won’t support it. That said, I’m proud of X-23’s run," he continued. "Two successful limited series and an ongoing series ain’t bad. Ditto for Daken [who is also ending his series]. From a supporting role in Wolverine: Origins to the lead of ongoing series that included him slicing Frank Castle to bits – enter Franken-Castle. Both were characters that gained traction in a market that, well, doesn’t really have a great track record of supporting new stuff. And both characters anchored legitimate monthly titles. We don’t do R&D at Marvel. We’ll stick by a title for a while – like we did with Spider-Girl – but there comes a point where that title has to earn, usually sooner than later."

And so there you have it. It's hard to argue with Marvel's decision to cancel books which we aren't buying (the site point out that Daken: Dark Wolverine has fallen from selling more 48,000 copies to less than 20,000) but at this rate, we'll be left with nothing more than Avengers, Spider-Man and X-Men titles on the stands! As usual, share your thoughts on this news below.

He's a great character, but they should put more focus into other books. I just hope that they don't cancel "X-Factor". Peter David said that he's heard nothing about "X-Factor" getting canceled, so we're safe for now.

@Grif: He's awesome.........so is X-23.

@Cebrebro: Not all books are $3.99 or more. Many are still $2.99.

If marvel does do a brand relaunch (not a reboot). Here are some of the titles I would like to see,
1. Runaways
2. Young Avengers
3. The Hood
4. Gravity
5. Guardians of the Galaxy
Put them out and then cancel them two months in;)

DC fifty two must have kicked the shiite out of Marvel!

I'm gonna laugh if they reboot the Marvel U. Just because so many Marvel fanboys were griping about DC doing it (although a lot of amazing titles have come from the new DCU, and it's been pretty well received.)

THANK GOD!!! Dakken is one of the STUPIDEST characters ever thought up. Making him the child spawn of Wolverine, and having Wolverine brood about being an unfit father was the dumbest idea Marvel has come up with. How do these guys get hired is beyond me. Oh yeah, lets make Logan the sensitive type. Yeah right! Kiss my (honk honk) Marvel for that one.

I rather see them reboot Marvel at this point with Point One. Wolverine should have one legitmate heir that he had kept hidden from his enemies and trained. It would be cool for him to have a kid who wants to take on the mantle of Wolverine after his father.Ole Wolvers has been around too long not to have a real son son, he spent alot of time at the bars if you know what i mean.Daken's character designed sucked monkey testes though. X-23 is a awesome character with alot of potential as well, but at the end of the day you have to make characters endearing to an certain audience to keep fans, i think the trimming of fat is a awesome idea. But yeah i want to see some kind of Marvel Reboot.Do Spidey like Batman clean up the inconsistencies but keep it pretty much the same and fix other such issues i think its a good idea given the current state of business.

Marvel need to trim the fat from their line, and if they want to get in good with their fanbase again they should drop the comics to at least $2.99 an issue.
A majority of their titles and mini-series are $3.99 an issue.
Why invest that extra dollar when DC have at least 52 titles to choose from, from $2.99?
I know where my dollar's are going.

Great villain but didn't need his own run for long. They can focus on main titles, but I am sad about Black Panther. I wish they would give him a better artist like David Yardin and Jacob Keith again.

Had gained traction in a market that, well, doesn’t really have a great track record of supporting new stuff... sad truth, stupid americans and their everlasting icons, try something new once in a while. Then you wonder why Asians are kicking your ass in Research and Development.

marvel should get rid of the titles that don't sell, apart from x-factor & thunderbolts which are pretty good.

replace them with new titles for the likes of nova, the inhumans & guardians of the galaxy.

I like that Marvel is trimming the fat. There's no need to give every character their own title. They can be developed within stronger titles.

I hope they don't focus only on the Avengers. The X-Men universe is where I spend my money.
