Badassery-induced cover art.

Those who say Thor's [frick]ed overly underestimates him. I'm not counting him out just yet.

Phoenix ate a star, so I guess it's safe to say Thor is gonna need a bigger boat!

lestat104:

And Thor absorbed the energy from the Null Bomb which was powerful enough to destroy the entire universe.

Have to say Opena has been killing it lately with both this and his work on X-Force....

I'm pissed that John Romita Jr is doing the art on this. He sucks

Why does this poster remind me of Green Lantern movie and Superman?

BigThor - 2/3/2012, 6:41 PM
Thor might be the underdog but he is the most powerful Avenger, he's the only one who stands a chance against Pheonix.

Like someone said earlier he absorbed the Null Bomb, he also pierced the armor of a Celestial and fought someone inside the core of the Sun.

In other words....Thor's no slouch himself.

Thor beat Rachel as the Phoenix before by reflecting her telepathic assault right back at her.

They'll have Thor win. It's coming out the same month Avengers is. They're not going to have Thor lose.

I don't think Thor will outright beat the Phoenix Force itself. He might beat Hope if she winds up possessed by the Force or he'll last long enough for the Avengers and/or X-Men to figure out a plan to stop it, but I don't think he'll beat the thing without extenuating circumstances. Based on what Thor has battled and endured though, I don't see him getting obliterated, either, though.

@ YoungThanos: Thor beat Galactus with the Godblast way back in Journey into Mystery days when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were handling things. He also has beaten the Hulk before - in spite of what Fear Itself's dialogue would have you believe. He's knocked Hulk out with lightning and even killed him in the future, though he went back in time to undo that. Generally, he stalemates the Hulk when he resorts only to brawling, not using his various powers and whatnot. He's also removed Juggernaut's force field and beat him apart with his bare hands and was only stopped due to Mjolnir's 60 second rule. Thor hasn't beaten Thanos, true, but he did beat an extraordinarily amped Thanosi and with the Power Gem, would have eventually beaten down Thanos if he didn't use his experimental gun to entrap Thor in a force block-like stasis.

I know its fun to talk about and joke about the cover. But it is a variant and very rarely do variants have much to do with the actual story. But still its a bad ass cover.

Bodwulf, Sentry ain't the Phoenix.

It's the [frick]in Phoenix, he has no chance at all, none. He would only last as long as Phoenix allowed it in all reality. Of course in the books they will make him last long enough for her to somehow be stopped.
SpideyQuad
SpideyQuad - 2/3/2012, 9:46 PM
Excuse me if I'm ignorant, but isn't that the Phoenix force? If it is it's looking for a host. Might that turn out to be Thor himself? Just something to think about…
WannabeSpiderMan
WannabeSpiderMan - 2/3/2012, 10:07 PM
I've never understood WTF people love about the Phoenix stuff. It's a convoluted mess that gets even more stupid every time they bring it back. I've always thought that the X-Men going cosmic was terrible as well. Even as a kid I was like "This shit is TERRIBLE!" and I love space-faring stuff. It's just not a good fit for X-Men.

So with that said, I hope Thor wipes the floor with that Phoenix bull-shit and we never have to see it EVER AGAIN. But that won't happen. Thanks, jackasses.
