COMICS: Kathryn Immonen Takes Over JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY From Issue #646 In November

Another title will be getting a Marvel NOW! makeover this November as Journey Into Mystery gets a new creative team in the form of writer Kathryn Immonen (Wolverine and Jubilee) and artist Valerio Schiti (TMNT) as Sif replaces Kid-Loki!

Thor was retitled Journey Into Mystery when Matt Fraction launched The Mighty Thor and Kieron Gillen took over the series making Kid-Loki the lead character. Since then, it has received almost unanimous praise from fans and critics alike, so the following will likely come as either very bad or very good news depending on your own enjoyment of it so far. As part of the Marvel NOW! relaunch, both Gillen and Loki will no longer be a part of the series as Kathryn Immonen and Valerio Schiti take over with a new lead character in the form of Sif. The cover and comments from the writer can be found below. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

"We talked at length as far as what her story could be, and it came down to a single question: What does she want? For Sif, what she wants above all is to be a better warrior. How far would she go for that? She makes some terrible decisions and puts a lot of people in peril. One of the really interesting things about Sif to me is that she's defined by absence, with her lover, Thor, and brother, Heimdall, always away from her. It would be disingenuous of me to say what Kieron did wasn't daunting. I loved his approach. Having said that, my fervent hope is to follow the same spirit of adventure, but there is not a 23-issue arc currently planned out. Sif is an action hero. Loki is not. They're fundamentally different. I don't use the talking to get to the fighting, I use the fighting to get to the talking. I see a similarity between Sif and Loki because neither of them can ever be Thor. I think that has more effect on her then she'll admit. She's been told she's capable of anything, but at the end of the day, she will never be Thor. It's a matter of finding out how to be enough anyway. Sif is not just a warrior. We've often seen her leading the charge, but I don't feel like we've ever seen her in charge. Bear with me, but she's kind of like my dog. He's very committed to his pack, but never looks back because he assumes everybody else is as committed as he is. Sif is the same way."

Story over action any day. Must be hard to write a compelling story for an action hero.

I love how many female writers marvel are putting on their good titles. It will be a breath of fresh air to read some comics written by women.

The art is Schiti? Cool! Sad to see Kid Loki out of the Spotlight but am excited to read a book dedicated to delving into and developing one of Marvel's wayside-fallen strong female characters. I wonder if Bill will be making a guest appearance in this.

I guess Journey into Mystery is like Thor's version of X-Men Legacy, with each new creative team the comic shifts to focus on another character in Thor's world.
