COMICS: Marvel Reveal Plans For HOWARD THE DUCK Ongoing Because, Uh, Why Not?

Due to popular demand (maybe), Marvel have revealed plans today for a brand new ongoing series starring...Howard the Duck?! We're not kidding, and you can check out details and artwork from the Guardians of the Galaxy character's new comic after the jump. Check it out!

These days, Marvel seemingly just print anything in the hope that it might pay off (though the fact that their monthly solicitations almost always have at least one or two cancellations indicates otherwise), and the latest character to get his own series is Howard the Duck. Yay?

To be fair, the series has a quality creative team in the form of Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones, and a devoted fanbase who will likely be very pleased by this news. Set on Earth, the cosmic character will apparently be a P.I. in this book, something which sounds like quite a bit of fun! "I love the contrast of Howard against both the normal world of us hairless apes and the weird worlds of Man-Things and Dr. Stranges and Spider-Mans. ‘Cause he doesn’t fit into either, really," says Zdarsky. "I’m just going to continue exploring those contrasts, but my ultimate goal is to make it funny. Marvel has taken chances on funny books and injecting humor into superhero titles, so I want to make sure this is worth some chuckles here and there." What do you guys think?

Honestly this is a lot easier to believe than what has been happening in the regular Marvel Comics recently.

Honestly, I'd love to see Howard appear in GOTG2! I could see him being The Collector's new assistant or something. Banter between him, Rocket, and possibly Cosmo would be priceless!!

Hopefully, if this book is a success, they'll add him to CA:Civil War! ;)

Well...it's Howard's clone technically. It has been since Steve Gerber did an image/marvel crossover involving a lot of Howard clones. He had been fighting marvel for Howard for years, and right as it started dying down they asked him to do the book, so he used it to trick them out of the character. In the end of the marvel version it was believed all the clones were killed, and the real Howard was left, but in the image comics ending it was shown that the real howard actually went back to image comics, he then changed his name so he could stay.
