I really think they are moving to this conflict too quick.
I'm liking the change of pace of having Otto as spidey but still eventually want the real peter back. And when and if peter does comeback I really hope he's change greatly by the events of what has happened to him.

In any case I've been enjoying superior I would like to see otto taking on some of the bigger names of spidey's rogues gallery though

haven't red it (this whole Spidey/Doctor story), but I must say the whole idea of Octopus taking over Peter's body doesn't sound that stupid. At least for me.

(in Clone Saga they cloned Peter like 10 times, really)

Might pick it up someday.

Otto will obviously find a way to get one over Pete.

Mmph: pacing-wise, tmeadows is right that it's too early for a confrontation like this if a 'Peter Comes Back' arc is all they have in mind.

The twist being that Ock wins seems a little too obvious, though... kind of wonder if "head Peter" isn't actually Parker at all but some kind of Ock alternate personality based on the stream of Spider-man memories he internalized, but... blah, who knows?

Well apparently, this issue is supposed to make everyone even more mad than Amazing #700 did. So I'm betting Ock doesn't lose this. Slott likes to do unexpectd things, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did something messed up like turn them into some weird hybrid or just have Peter actually get excised altogether.

Theory: Too everyones' amazement (or not), Parker loses. Ock continues his life as Spider-man. Parker finds a way back to the "real world" via another body.

Hopefully this is Marvel's graceful attempt to rectify a horrible decision by a rogue writer who should be tarred and feathered for his blasphemy.

They can keep calling it the "Superior Spider-Man" for all I care but this Ock-Spidey nonsense has to go, it's just wrong. Just plain wrong. The bad guy doesn't win, doesn't get the good guy's girl. That's not how this works, call it old-fashioned or naive but watching Peter LOSE just isn't right.

If you want to retire him or kill him off heroically and have someone else take over i.e. Miles Morales style, that's cool. Let Kaine take over as Spider-Man, sure I'll go for that too even if Scarlet Spider is rolling along just fine right now..but to have Peter LOSE and have a villain win and take over....

That's just plain wrong man, just plain wrong.

Yes. Yawn. Controversial? It would only be so if Peter Porker died for real and ended Spider-Man's misery.

Any ish NOT drawn by Humberto Ramos is a BIG plus in my book. The art looks great!

This has actually been the best plotline Spidey has seen in YEARS. It's very retro, old-fashioned Spidey in one way, yet feels very modern.

Slott's previous Spidey tales (including the god-awful Ends of the Earth) were not worth the time. I stopped buying the book several years back and was only skimming at the store. The stories felt forced, characters acted and spoke out of character, he just didn't have a handle on things...but that ABSOLUTELY changed w/#698.

And Superior has been awesome...I'm diggin' it.

Sorry but I would hate to have my worst enemy walking around in my body for 6 months. Peter has to win or I'll be pissed. Don't mess with the original or you'll get stepped on.

I tried reading the first three issue of Superior Spider-Man but its garbage. Honestly, I've collected comics for over 20 years, with Amazing Spider-Man being my most consistently collected comic of all time, and ASM# 700 ruined comics for me. Since reading that, I cannot get into any comic book. It was like someone pulled back the curtain and I saw clearly that the great and powerful Oz was just a fallible old man. Now, in my mid-30s, after decades of loving comics, all I think after reading anything Marvel or DC, no matter how well written, is that its all just stupid garbage.
Thank you, Dan Slott, for ruining Wednesdays for me and taking away something that I used to hold dear.

"...comes to a turning point that will get you angrier than you were after Spidey #700!"

That is NOT how you should advertise this issue. Seriously, are Marvel really trying to piss off all the die-hard Spidey fans? Unfortunately, I guess that Ock is going to get rid of Ghost-Peter. Slott said it would continue for at least a year onward, so this is obviously too soon...unless Marvel have stepped in after falling sales...does anyone know what the sales for this have been like?

I dunno if it's just me, but that art looks horrible better than John Romita Jr, but still pretty bad... Anyway, I hope Marvel rectify their mistakes and finally get rid of Octo-Spidey, I've been reading Superior but haven't really enjoyed it, just like a habbit I haven't been able to break out off, so if this new twist makes things any worse I think I'll just stick with Miles Morales...

"The hottest comic in comics comes to a turning point that will get you angrier than you were after Spidey #700!"

The only thing that makes me angry is that Marvel thinks they will get me to pick up this comic because it will make me angry. Hate to break it to you, Marvel, but I don't read comics to be pissed off. I read comics to be entertained and have fun. Yet again, this is the same company that publishedd Ultimatum so I'm not that shocked.

I honestly tried with Superior, I don't mind comic writers trying something new. But after the first few issues I was not feeling it. The gimmick of Ock being Spidey felt just like that, a gimmick and I find this whole "This comic is going to make you so angry" mentality nothing short of mean-spirited. Not very Spidey.
CaptainObvious
CaptainObvious - 4/25/2013, 1:33 PM
The key ingredient to Spider-Man was being relatable. That is why he has endured for over 50 years. How am I supposed to relate to Doc Ock as Spider-Man? I don't kill, maim, lie, or contemplate raping my enemy's girlfriend. There is nothing down-to-earth about this Spider-Man. Nothing about him is heroic. If anything, he is an psychopathic, untrustworthy, egotistical madman. He is about as "heroic" as the Batman from All-Star Batman and Robin.

I don't read the comics but when I first heard what they were going to do I thought "interesting twist but it has to be a temp thing"... Spidey is damn near an American icon and a face for Marvel Comics.. How stupid is it for them to say they want to further piss off comic fans that are their bread and butter?? Great marketing ploy though, that comment alone will generate more interest and perhaps make the issue a high seller...

@PeterDarker You over-estimate people.
There are people here and every other forum or blog that jump at anything the media or entertainment industry throws at them.
Everytime a NEW trailer of anything hits, people proclaim it great. Everytime a CBM gets rebooted the NEW is always better than the PAST. Right now RDJ is it. But when Stark gets recast and thats coming, people will swear Mr. New is better than RDJ.

Slott is a low life scum bag. He could be on here but he likes to stay on Twitter so he can delete his scumbag dialog and he loves to hang out in the forum at Marvel's Fudge Packer Pals @ Bleeding Cool just like Wacker does.

But considering the blatant stupidity I see on the Net, yeah I could see some really brain cell deprived people loving Slott's monthly comic crapping.

I haven't read Superior Spider-Man, so I can't speak to the overall story, but I did read the preview Marvel released. Based on that and that alone, I cannot be excited for Superior Spider-Man. Doctor Octopus as Spider-Man there was brash, arrogant and cocky. I wanted him to be punched in the face frankly, to lose horribly. He wasn't Spider-Man. What I love about Spider-Man is that he's vibrant, full of life, usually making the right decision, and is snarky to no end (while having personal problems as well, of course). The preview I read didn't have true snarking from Spider-Man. It was, instead, flat-out holier-than-thou snobbishness of someone who considered themselves far above the ones he was fighting. Snarking is funny, while what Superior Spider-Man was doing was just simply insulting the people he was fighting.

Now, the idea of reformation of a villain can be a compelling read. I just don't want it to throw out an already loved character.

@CyberBishop We can't know Marvels actual sales numbers to customers because the sales numbers are to comic shops who cant return unsold comics.
But the actual sales cant be good. Spider-Man sales to shops have already dipped back to under 70k a month.

We have over 300 million people in the US. 23% are 18-34 which is over 70 million. And Marvel titles are now dipping to 20k and their biggest titles are in the 50-70k range unless they have some gimmick.

Theres no good way to look at Marvel's sales when you look at those numbers.

People buy things that please the senses and entertain them. There may be a scant few who claim theyre great but the numbers are staggering. over 70 million people 18-34 wont buy Marvel Comics.

Excelsior!

Nuff said!

Slott needs to go away and stop writing Spider-Man. He needs to go back to She Hulk or Heroes for Hire or some random title that no one cares about. I am just about the biggest Spider-Man fan you will ever meet, but I have not bought any of the new Spider-Man since One More Day because it pissed me off worse than a constipated Hulk.

After that, I thought, "there is no way they can screw up Spider-Man any more" and we have ridiculously stupid story of Ock swapping bodies with Parker and then taking over. Not to mention, I never like Ramos' artwork, always thought it sucked.

The only good thing Slott has done in the past 7 years is resurrecting Kaine as the new Scarlet Spider.
RadicalDuck
RadicalDuck - 4/25/2013, 2:33 PM
Also, I've said this before, but what gets me is that Marvel, and the people who are loving Superior think its all fresh and exciting because Ock is darker and edgier, and using scientific bad-assery to take villains down...sorry, but this is just recycling old ideas. In Back in Black, we had a darker Spider-Man running around and threatening to kill the Kingpin because of the hit on Aunt May, and from the looks of things if it had been allowed to continue, it would have been even darker. And in relation to science, Peter in JMS' run frequently used his scientific knowledge to combat enemies such as Morlun for example, and I know not everyone likes JMS, but the series felt more more mature...as if Spidey has progressed through his experience, and was learning to cope better. Then On More Day comes, and bamf! All this gets wiped away, and a less competent Peter is shoved in... and then Superior is paraded around, and of course Otto is going to be more competent ...because Marvel changed Peter to be less than what he was!

And to be honest, I was ok with Spidey-Ock for a bit after the initial WTF reaction, because hey, it could have been interesting. But the fact they keep tantalizing Peter coming back, the main thing that fans want, and then marketing it on the fact that its going to piss you off...I mean seriously, why would you buy it if its going to make you angry?!
Then again, they don't really care. Who was it that said "Parker fans will just fade away" ? Yeah, thousands of people who have been reading fifty years worth of comics are going to be ok with you messing around with what makes the character iconic.
Not cool.
Sorry guys, that "angrier" line just really irked me.

@RadicalDuck In the mid 90's Marvel started focusing on pleasing the 14-19 year olds who think their entertainment must have spilled blood in every scene. They somehow thought focusing on a very small percentage of people was the way to success.
Look where it got them.

They will eventually go digital only. And several years later the digital will become digital reprint only.

Hmmm....I'm curious. I honestly think they should leave Ock as Spider-Man for awhile longer. It takes balls to do something like that. Kind of like leaving Wolverine without his Adamantium for 5 years or so. Ballsy.
