Marvel Comics Announces Free MARVEL MUST-HAVES For Newer Fans Amid Declining Comic Book Sales

It's no secret that the success of superhero movies hasn't necessarily translated to an increase in comic book sales, but a new Marvel Comics initiative could be a good move for new and lapsed fans alike.

After an announcement during the ComicsPRO Comic Industry Conference, Marvel Comics has today shared details on its new Marvel Must-Haves initiative.

These free issues will collect multiple iconic issues that "spotlight the Marvel characters and comic book series currently at the forefront of pop culture." It's said, "These stories have been handpicked to get fans in-tune with current Marvel adventures, and act as perfect jumping on points for new readers too!"

It's a smart move on Marvel's part, especially as the multi-billion dollar box office success of superhero movies hasn't really translated to comic book sales. An endless series of relaunches with new #1 issues alienated longtime collectors and confused newer readers, so it seems this is a new approach by the publisher to attract fans.

The first Marvel Must-Haves issue will hit comic book stores next month and, at 80 pages, it will include the following tales. As we're sure you'll notice, Marvel Comics is using this opportunity to direct readers to its trade paperbacks!

I think in order to drive sales up they should actually release less books. Spider-man and Batman don’t need like 4 monthly titles each. Oversaturation always leads to a drop in quality

@Nightwing1015 - 100%. Also, we don't need 5,000 versions of Spider Man.

Hey Marvel (and DC) -- people shouldn't have to go to a comic shop to find comics. They also shouldn't cost $5.00. Yours sincerely.

@xkot - I seem to remember someone saying the problem with putting comics everywhere is that it will kill comic shops. Idk how true it is but food for thought

@Nightwing1015 - You wouldn't have all the comics everywhere; just the heavy hitter titles. Trust me when I say that it would *help* comic shops. It would create more fans, and drive those people to seek out more comics, back issues, etc. It would be nothing but good for comic shops.

They're not trying to push Ms. Marvel at all...

I still get comics every once in a while but only to collect the rare variant covers. I don’t think I e read any of them in like 15 years.
Make more cartoon movies that can coincide with the comic books. I think that could boost some sales. I miss the older marvel cartoon movies.

Long before it hit the movies, “the message” was implanted into comic books. To reprogram society, you have to hit the kids. This was the beginning of the end. It’s not about “woke,” it’s about social programming, Blackrock, Vanguard, State street, and the NWO that is very real and wants to eliminate 90% of the world’s population. This affects all people and we all must come together against the .01% who want to do us harm.

Comics are dead. It’s a dying medium. Tv movies and video games are taking over and replacing comics as the new source of entertainment for Marvel fans and pop culture fans. I stopped reading comics in the early 2000s. I would never go back.

I wish more comics showed their actual issue number, as well as volume and part # (eg. “2 of 6”) on the cover, so readers know where they are in an arc.

They should have comic books in cinemas. If you are showing an Iron Man movie have some Iron Man Comics.

Also at the of end of the credits say visit your local comic shop.

I am sure it would help.

Get good writers, good artists, drop the agendas, stop all the rediculous events, stop endless number 1s drop the price and make them more easily available

But they won't do any of this
