It's a somber day for comic book fans as the legendary Stan Lee has reportedly passed away. Celebrity gossip and tabloid news publication TMZ was the first to break the heartbreaking news, reporting that an ambulance had been rushed to Lee's home in the Hollywood Hills early Monday morning. Lee was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where it's said that he died; he was 95 years old.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Joan Celia (J.C.), who offered the following statement to TMZ: "My father loved all of his fans. He was the greatest, most decent man."

Lee battled several health issues over the last year, including overcoming a bout of pneumonia. He also suffered from vision issues.

A true legend in the comic book industry, Stan Lee co-created Marvel Comics with Jack Kirby in 1961. They started with The Fantastic Four, but Lee went on to help create many of the iconic Marvel superheroes that we see on the big screen today, including Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, and The Avengers. Though he was never as hands-on with the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lee has had cameos in each of the MCU films to date.

Rest in peace, Generalissimo.

@Brave - such a shame. It sounded like there was a lot of problems he was going through in his last days. Hopefully he can now rest in peace.

@Brave - Stan's fingerprints are all over the comic book world. I have long left paper comics behind and am eternally grateful that we have people like Feige, Favreau, Whedon, Gunn, RDJ, Evans, Hemsworth among the many to carry on the tradition of storytelling. The stories that helped shape my childhood morals can now continue on under the guiding hand of Disney keeping them safe from those who are merely looking to turn a buck at any cost.

@JonC - and to that end... i will post one of the many great sayings that have come from the characters in these books... a saying that many have looked up to over time.

"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility"

Marvel was always about human characters imbued with great powers, not aliens that had to live among humans. And in that we can find a little bit of ourselves in each one.

Post your own inspirational saying from a Marvel character if you agree.

@JonC - and let us not forget that if it was not for his wife and the advice she gave him, we would not have the marvel comics and universe that we enjoy today. if you have not read the story on it then you must take the time and pay honor.

@Brave - I'm absolutely broken over what happened that I made a video just to let it all out

Sorry over the pronunctiation and all but if you guys could watch it to see why I'm so hurt and to maybe relate that'd be great. It doesn't feel like we lost a great writer, it feels like we lost a father or granpa.

@Brave - I think he also served in the army during WWII, very fitting and cool to see he had the chance to celebrate one more Veterans Day before his death. RIP Stan!

@Brave - and I forgot, thanks for the autographed Spidey comic book Stan, I’ve had it in my closet for 20 years, it was a pleasure to have met you!

@guyatadesk - The Academy doesn’t care about blockbusters. Marvel movies aren’t arts. You’re making it bigger than it is. They might include him in the ‘in memory of’ tribute video but that’s it.

Stan changed all our lives for the better. A legend. Words cannot express how shocking it is to actually be presented with this reality.

He lives on through his phenomenally heartfelt works and more.

RIP Stan Lee

Was really hoping Stan would make it through next summer, so that he could see the conclusion of Phase 3 with Avengers 4. At least he was able to enjoy Infinity War.

@HeavyMetal4Life - My guess is that he already watched a rough cut of it. Still very sad he passed away tho.

@JonC - That is definitely going to be the most touching moment of the movie

I always knew & feared this day would come some time soon & wondered how I’d react & honestly. I’m not sad but relived that Stan is at peace

Since the death of his wife, Stan has acted different. He’s been used & abused & forced to go to conventions to sign stuff & can barely remember & write his own name.

While this is sad news that we have lost a man who has brought us all joy; Stan lived a long & amazing life & now he’s at peace reunited with his wife. All I can say is thank you Stan for all you’ve done & may you rest well. You’ve earned it

@LEVITIKUZ - couldn't have said it any better. I'm really, genuinely upset by his passing but it's clear that Joan's death took a massive toll so it's comforting to know he's at peace.
