NYCC '11: Sabertooth To Return To The Marvel Universe

Joe Quesada's CUP O JOE panel is currently up and running at NYCC and once again Newsarama are live blogging the event. So far the biggest revelation is that longtime Wolverine nemesis Sabertooth is coming back from the dead..

Yet another one for the ol Resurrection. Last time we saw Sabertooth he was in a bit of a pickle, being dead and all. He was decapitated by Wolverine. Given that it's very rare for a well known comic book character to stay dead for very long many assumed we would see Sabertooth back before now but better late than never. The vicious bastard will return..

Those of you who have been clamoring for Sabretooth to make Wolverine's life miserable, he is coming back," Loeb said. How can that be possible, since Sabretooth was decapitated? "If you go back and actually look at 'Evolution,' and particularly the last issue of that story, it is there. We did leave bread crumbs along the way. It's not going to be a time travel trick."

I am happy about this though because Sabertooth has always been one of my favorite bad guys. How do you guys feel about it? Quesada also kinda sorta hints that MAYBE Jean Grey could be returning too but it's a stretch.

..Quesada said they won't reveal what's coming right now, but they will give a clue: A slide with what sure looks like a Phoenix bird, and these names: Aaron, Bendis, Brubaker, Coipel, Fraction, Hickman, Kubert, Romita Jr. Plus the year, 2012.

So Jean is comibg back?

Way too early to tell, but that's definitely something the teaser might be suggesting. But it was an actual Phoenix — as in the bird/Phoenix force projection — not Jean on the image.

Ok, so The Phoenix but not Jean maybe. Either way it seems like an exciting time to be a Marvel fan. Bee sure to click on the link below to read more on upcoming Marvel comic events.

Screw that. Let him stay where he is! I like him, but I'd hate to see Mephisto mysteriously appear and bring Sabertooth back under the condition that he doesn't remember who Wolverine is... Quesada style = thumbs down....

Sabertooth has been dead for 4 years and even though I like the character, I haven't really missed him.Logan's life has been plenty miserable since then.He certainly doesn't need Sabertooth for that.Just look at the recent events in the Wolverine series.

@ madking14

i've just got this from sabertooth profile on marvel.com

Sabretooth appeared to be more feral and vicious than ever before, and it was revealed that his captor was Romulus, an individual who has an unexplainable connection to both Logan and Creed. Creed faced Wolverine, who was wielding the muramasai blade which negated both of their healing factors; Logan beheaded Creed, seemingly ending his life.

im just curious how they're gonna bring back a character who got his effing head sliced off...since when does the healing factor let you grow you're head back?

Why would Wolverine need a special blade to decapitate Sabertooth? Wolverine has his adamantium covered bones to prevent decapitation, what does Sabertooth have?

@ HarrisonBergeron

The blade negates healing factor. Thats why he needed it you Dick Head!

Dick Head of the day is HarrisonBergeron.

CorndogBurglar - 10/15/2011, 7:54 PM
Like Matches said, the sword Wolvie used is the Muramasa Blade, and it was created to negate people's healing factors.

Wolverine owns the sword and entrusted it to Cyclops to use on Wolvie in case he ever lost his mind.

This is why this sucks. I love Sabretooth, but when they killed him, they did it in such a way that he was never supposed to be brought back to life. They even advertised the story as being the story that would end the Sabretooth/Wolverine rivalry forever. Yet here we are, 4 years later...

lol, you know most people around here don't really read comics, lol...

Death is like Marvel's Arkham Asylum. Sooner or later, the subject will "escape".

Sabretooth is badass. He's a calculating serial killer who might appear dumb & feral but he's not.

@corndogburgular

Then why watch comic book movies? To know if a movie is based on a comic you would at least have to look at a cover.
MatchesMalone1989
MatchesMalone1989 - 10/15/2011, 8:39 PM
You can't just look at batman and without ever reading a comic and be like. Oh shit! Its the the dark knight! A comic book movie! But wait? I never read comics so how do I know that?
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 10/15/2011, 10:37 PM
So, Wolverine could have his head cut off and not die? I thought decapitation equaling death was the standard across all sci-fi(as opposed to fantasy) genres.

HarrisonBergeron - 10/15/2011, 10:39 PM
Obviously, I don't read Marvel comics.

Preemptive response: I clicked on the article because, having watched the X-Men cartoon as a kid, I found it interesting that Sabertooth, a rather prominent villain, was dead.
MaliciousHero
MaliciousHero - 10/16/2011, 2:38 AM
Jean Grey honestly needs to stay 6 feet under. Bringing her back would definetly be one of the bigger mistakes they could do for X-men.

If anyone should be brought back, for a villian, yeah, Sabertooth, stick his body and his head together and it could heal, and for a good guy, Xavier, I really miss him.

But no to Jean Grey, for the love of anything, keep her dead!

Didn't think they should of killed him off in the first place, but welcome back Victor.

Death really is not doing his job. Comicbook characters have used death's revolving dooor so much it fell apart

What the hell is that ridiclous picture in this article and why is Wolverine fighting a crazed muppet?
CrashTest
CrashTest - 10/16/2011, 7:23 AM
thats cool, can't go wrong with SaberTooth, even though it was about time that Logan killed him. Jean Grey as been hinted at a few times, even in Fear its self,
