Review: ORIGINAL SIN #6-Open Your Eye

Review: ORIGINAL SIN #6-Open Your Eye

Original Sin #6 continues to deliver solid story and great character development, which is enough to win over readers, but still lacks in both action and new revelations.

What I Liked

  • Really awesome character development with Nick Fury
  • Great visuals and art style that sets the tone for the story of the book
  • Still feels like an intense mystery story
  • Great character inclusions with the Avengers, really feels like this is an event that impacts the entire Marvel Universe
  • Excellent dialogue that moved the plot forward

What I Didn’t Like

  • Pacing was a bit slow, but necessary for proper exploration of characters and the narrative
  • Felt a bit frustrated by the lack of secrets revealed, and how Fury avoided the big questions

Themes:

The big theme that seemed to run through this issue of Original Sin is “how far is too far” when trying to protect the planet from being blown up or taken over by hostile alien forces.

Nick Fury hand picked a crew of the “darker” heroes that he knows play fast and loose with the rules and who would kill if necessary, believing one of them to be worthy of becoming the next “Man on the Wall,” but most of them reject the idea of becoming a flat out murderer, as it goes against their principles and moral code.

The idea pushes readers to think of their own principles and morals regarding the taking of life, and begs the question is it ever right to kill? If so, who determines this decision and what gives them that kind of authority?

Part of what makes Original Sin #6 so thought provoking is that it also makes you think of the numerous times heroes have busted villains in the middle of some evil scheme which resulted in massive destruction and loss of life, wondering whether or not the whole situation could’ve been avoided and lives saved, had these heroes killed the villain in some previous altercation.

Stories that force you to think through difficult scenarios like this not only add to the enjoyment of the characters and their dilemma, but actually aid you in clarifying your own position on the subject.

Overall score: 9 out of 10
