It was always looking likely after both shows were hit with a series of delays due to picketing, and THR has now confirmed that Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again and DC/Max's The Batman spin-off, Penguin, have fully paused production for the duration of the ongoing WGA strike.
Unfortunately, we have no idea when the strike is expected to end.
Will this result in the shows' premiere dates being pushed back? No exact dates have been announced yet, but both are tentatively scheduled to debut next year. This report doesn't mention any potential delays, but depending on how long the strike lasts, one would assume it has to be a possibility.
Born Again will see Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) and Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle) reprise their respective roles from the Netflix Daredevil series, along with new cast members Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James and Sandrine Holt. We recently learned that Holt will play The Kingpin's wife, Vanessa Fisk, while James is rumored to be playing assistant DA Kristen McDuffie.
The show will be loosely based on the '80s Marvel Comics series of the same name by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli, but is not expected to be an overly faithful adaptation. Despite some significant changes to the story, "Daredevil versus Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, remains the focal point."
Penguin will feature the return of Colin Farrell's take on the classic DC Comics villain as he attempts to fill the power vacuum left in Gotham City's underworld after the events of The Batman. The 8-episode series will also star Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.
We haven't seen anything from Born Again (set photos aside) yet, but you can check out an "in production" teaser for Penguin below.
