Despite Max supposedly being the exclusive streaming home for DC titles, it doesn't appear as if that's going to be the case for DC Extended Universe movies.
In what's likely a move to drive up profits and reduce streaming losses, Warner Bros. Discovery has quietly reached a deal with Netflix which will see eight key DCEU releases added to the streaming platform on December 1.
There are a few noteworthy omissions, including Aquaman and Shazam!, but for the most part, the gang is all here. As you can see below, Netflix subscribers will soon have access to Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Suicide Squad.
However, some DCEU fans have already taken aim at Netflix. Why? Because that's the "wrong" Justice League movie.
Zack Snyder's Justice League is nowhere to be found; instead, Netflix will host the 2017 version which saw Joss Whedon take charge of extensive reshoots. The "Snyder Cut" was produced exclusively for Max, presumably explaining why it will remain solely on that platform for the time being.
We're sure many of you are familiar with the #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix hashtag, but if you're a supporter of that movement, it's best not to get your hopes up and take this as a sign of anything being in the works. Instead, it seems more likely Warner Bros. is offloading these movies to another streamer before shifting the spotlight to DC Studios' DCU reboot in 2024 and beyond.
Still, it's an interesting coincidence that the DCEU has found a new home on Netflix, especially as Snyder has formed a close relationship with the streamer making movies like Army of the Dead and the upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon.
The DCEU is the ninth-highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $6.7 billion at the global box office. After a fairly disastrous 2023, the series will come to an end this December with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
