Netflix Adds EIGHT DC Extended Universe Movies In December But There's Already Backlash From Fans

Has #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix paid off? Not quite, but Netflix has confirmed today that eight DC Extended Universe titles are heading to the streaming platform. However, there's already some backlash...

Despite Max supposedly being the exclusive streaming home for DC titles, it doesn't appear as if that's going to be the case for DC Extended Universe movies.

In what's likely a move to drive up profits and reduce streaming losses, Warner Bros. Discovery has quietly reached a deal with Netflix which will see eight key DCEU releases added to the streaming platform on December 1.

There are a few noteworthy omissions, including Aquaman and Shazam!, but for the most part, the gang is all here. As you can see below, Netflix subscribers will soon have access to Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Suicide Squad

However, some DCEU fans have already taken aim at Netflix. Why? Because that's the "wrong" Justice League movie.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is nowhere to be found; instead, Netflix will host the 2017 version which saw Joss Whedon take charge of extensive reshoots. The "Snyder Cut" was produced exclusively for Max, presumably explaining why it will remain solely on that platform for the time being.

We're sure many of you are familiar with the #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix hashtag, but if you're a supporter of that movement, it's best not to get your hopes up and take this as a sign of anything being in the works. Instead, it seems more likely Warner Bros. is offloading these movies to another streamer before shifting the spotlight to DC Studios' DCU reboot in 2024 and beyond.

Still, it's an interesting coincidence that the DCEU has found a new home on Netflix, especially as Snyder has formed a close relationship with the streamer making movies like Army of the Dead and the upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon

The DCEU is the ninth-highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $6.7 billion at the global box office. After a fairly disastrous 2023, the series will come to an end this December with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Are you excited to relive the DCEU's biggest movies on Netflix? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

@dracula - When I come to this website I see more bitching ABOUT Snyder cut fans than bitching FROM Snyder cut fans themselves.

The only movie worthy of watching in Man of Steel. The only diamond in a pile of crap. Wonder Woman and Zack Snyders Justice League were OK.

The Marvels is tracking between 75 and 80 million, more than half of what MoM made in its debut weekend. Holy moly!

Also where's the "backlash" from this article lol it's OBVIOUS that the MAX PRODUCED cut would stay on Max, shocking!

@bobevanz - in Josh's mind, one guy being mildly upset on Twitter constitutes backlash.

Gotta get that ad Rev somehow.

@bobevanz

The Marvels is projected to open at 45 mil domestically.

@bobevanz -
Of the last 6 films in the MCU, 5 of them have been critical and commercial successes.

NWH made 2 billion

DS2 made 930 mil

L&T made 750 mil

WF made 850 mil

Quantumania is the only one even coming close to a fail, making 500m

Guardians 3 did 870 mil

Truly; a franchise on the brink of death. They will never recover from marvels.

That's honestly nothing to sniff at.

@CoHost - Thing to keep in mind though is that while DCEU at the face value made a lot at the box office, most of their movies were also very expensive.

The DCEU hasn't found 'a new home on Netflix.' David Zaslav isn't nearly as precious about DC properties as prior management, and at the end of the day, money is money.

@Kozmik - Netflix needs content I guess and is desparate enough to take on this crap.

Guess they want people to fall asleep so other movies can play automatically for stats...

OT: Marvel is considering pivoting from Kang for this saga to Dr. Doom.

Yeah, I'm not reading into this at all. Licensing it out to other platforms is probably a good way for studios/streaming services to make money off of older movies.

I'll just keep beating the "buy physical media" drum. Stop trusting streaming services to have what you want and sort that out yourself.

Blows my mind that some people can’t comprehend that a “Max exclusive” stays on Max.

Backlash from fans but no source for the backlash from fans. Also, who cares what streamer it's on unless you wanted to consolidate streamers.

All that stuff just dropped onto Amazon and everything else too it's nothing unique to Netflix... if anything it's an indication that WB is trying to cut their losses by licensing out as much high dollar content as possible to other streaming services.
