Last week, Fox released a new trailer for Deadpool 2 but days before that popped up online, a story from The Hollywood Reporter surfaced revealing that test screenings for the movie have been overwhelmingly popular and that the highly publicised reshoots added a secret cameo. The question now is, which comic book character/famous face will show up as Wade Wilson assembles X-Force?
Considering the fact this was important enough to add in reshoots, you have to believe that it's a big deal and it's no wonder that speculation about the character's identity has gone into overdrive!
What you'll find below then is a list of some of our favourite possibilities and how we believe they could factor into the highly anticipated sequel. We're confident you'll be surprised by some of our choices, so be sure to click on the buttons below to view this Deadpool 2 list in its entirety...
Cyclops & Jean Grey
In the comic books, Cable is, of course, the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey (well, Madalyne Pryor but let's not complicate things by introducing her). Regardless of whether we're talking about the current iterations of the characters played by Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner or James Marsden and Famke Janssen's versions, a flashback showing these two sending their son into the future would be very cool.
It's not a scene which would necessarily be played for laughs but is the right sort of fan service and connects Cable to the X-Men franchise in a memorable way which fanboys will definitely appreciate.
Gambit
Gambit recently lost yet another director but Fox is still moving forward on the project and this could be the perfect place to introduce the Cajun superhero played by Channing Tatum. Perhaps Wade Wilson will approach the thief and offer him the opportunity to join X-Force, only to be turned down because he has better things to do (which will be explored in his solo outing...if it ever happens).
As cameos go, this would be pretty good fun and you have to believe that Deadpool would find a way to poke fun at the fact Gambit's movie still hasn't happened! Business wise, this would also be a smart move by Fox because it would get fans excited for the character's long overdue spinoff movie.
Psylocke
Olivia Munn's Psylocke made a pretty significant impact in X-Men: Apocalypse even if most fans found fault with Bryan Singer's decision to portray her as a villain. It's not clear if she'll be popping up in X-Men: Dark Phoenix but this movie would be the perfect place to redeem the character somewhat.
After all, her comic book counterpart has a storied history with X-Force and her signing up to assist the team would be a cool way of ensuring that Munn has a big role in this world moving forward beyond just being someone the X-Men clash with now and again. Making Psylocke part of Wade's new team would be an unexpected move and even if she says no to his offer, this would be a really fun cameo.
Wolverine
Is this wishful thinking? Probably. However, with it now clear that Fox's X-Men Universe is nearing its end thanks to the Disney/Fox deal, it could be that Ryan Reynolds has convinced Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine for just a few moments of screentime (imagine a parody of that "F*** off" scene from X-Men: First Class). This would be a fun surprise and would blow fans of the hero away.
Ever since it became clear that Deadpool was happening, pretty much every X-Men fan has been fantasising about the Merc with the Mouth crossing paths with Logan but the closest we got to that was a copy of People stapled to Wade's face! If this sequel is potentially going to serve as a farewell of sorts to the character's R-Rated adventures, a cameo from Wolverine would be no bad thing.
Stryfe
He's not the biggest name on this list but this clone of Cable was created by the Askani and raised by Apocalypse. He's also the founder of Mutant Liberation Front and the creator of the Legacy Virus and with rumours swirling that there's going to be a potentially massive twist in Deadpool 2 which will be controversial among some fans, what if it's ultimately revealed that Cable is actually Stryfe?
It could be that he's transformed into the villain by the time the credits roll, thereby making him the big bad of X-Force and a different version of Cable could even travel back in time to do battle with...himself? Either way, this is a cameo which has a lot of potential so fingers crossed it happens.
Which of these characters do you think could show up in Deadpool 2 for this "secret cameo"? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on that in the comments section below.
