Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool Movie Is In The Works But Still Has No Idea When/If We'll See It!

The Green Lantern actor has once again been quizzed about starring in the movie and has pointed out that while the script is still coming along nicely, that's about all the adaptation does have at this point...

"We'll see," Reynolds told MTV News when asked whether or not Deadpool is still in the works. "It's in development like the other films."

"Look, a movie is the sum of all its parts. You have to have a filmmaker signed on, you have to have the budget worked out, and you have to have the rating worked out. All those things."

And from everything that we've heard so far, it would seem that Deadpool has none of those things! However, the movie does have a script currently being worked on by Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to which Reynolds said: "It's coming along."

"There's a great script there."

He's sounding less and less optimistic and passionate as the interviews go by, might be time to find a better actor so they get 'Deadpool' finished while there's a demand for it. It isnt hard to find a sarcastic actor and I KNOW not many of you know this, but dedication in a gym for a few months can easily help someone fill the shoes for this role.

i can't see it happening, fox is treating deadpool like dc entertainment are treating all their charactors.

All REYNOLD's does is talk about it!

I for one ain't bothered if he plays him or not, after his last attempt... I'd rather a talented unknown thats cool with a messed up face through the whole movie!

well i would much rather marvel get the rights back to x-men so we see the original x-men character and them be more faithful then what we have seen and we could see some stories like the night of the sentinels, and days of future past, and grant morrisons new x-men and generation-x characters all come together with the original x-men, and thats what i want to see.

blah @ Only way that'll happen is if we stop putting money in FOX's pockets, I'd gladly do that to get it back at Marvel Studios dude!

All you said we'd likely see and not FOXED up versions... its a damn shame theres even comic book fans that love FOX stuff?

Hell Marvel could have even done a New Mutants TV show or something as well, now with DISNEY kicking them up the A$$!

I just met both of them (Ryan and Rodrigo) at a Chicago screening of Buried - I get to see all of these movies before they come out as part of a film program for college :) It was an outstanding film. Ryan is the nicest guy - you have no idea how intimidating it is to shake Hal Jordan's hand. I wanted to ask him about Deadpool so badly - but with all of this I figured I'd just be bugging him.

I've pretty much stopped caring about this movie...hell, it's hard to get excited to see Deadpool on the big screen when Marvel shove him down our throats in pretty much 3 titles a week! He's not been particularly well written for a few years now, and although I have 100% faith in the writers of Zombieland, it's Fox so it'll be shit like the rest of their CBM's! :P

When will the rights to the Merc revert back to Marvel? Is he swept up in the X-Men?

Just think about Fox's previous movies (for example: Fantastic Four, Elektra and, in my opinion, every other CBM they've done including the X-Men movies) and tell me that Deadpool is a good idea even with Reynolds in the title role! It would more than likely be just another cameo filled mess that craps all over the conic books as X-Men: First Class is doing! :P

Dear Mr Reynolds,

It has come to our attention that you're *icking us around when it comes to the deadpool movie. Please be aware that most of us sat through the horrible movie that was x-men orgins. Some of us sat through it only because you said deadpool was awesome in said movie. Now let me make this clear some of us paid for it ( I didn't, Sadly I walked into a friends house while he was watching the work print and from that alone I knew I had no desire to see it) YOU owe use a Deadpool movie, It is on your head. You spent the last 6-9 months talking about how awesome this movie was going to be once it was made. Get it made. Mr. Reynolds we as a group of avid Comic book readers expect you to make this movie. We expect you to make it to be the best cbm there is. If you snub us we will find you and stab you to death with sporks....

Thank you
Mr. Hateful

I wouldn't mind seeing Marvel getting the rights back. But I think we need the current Singerverse. There's a lot of decent material there. I don't think we're gonna find another guy like Hugh Jackman that can play Wolverine (I know his take is more mainstream and audience-approved, but I didn't mind it at all). Or what about Patrick Stewart? I'm certain that guy has enough gas in his tank.

This film is not coming out. It's coming along at a snail's pace, and when film's do that they tend to get shelved ( i.e. Robocop reboot, Rainbow Six).

I think the success of Deadpool on film in the future will be as a supporting character. And I don't mean a heavily distorted cameo like in Wolverine.

I could care less about a Deadpool movie but being that he's a mutant, I don't believe that he will end up back at Marvel for a long time. I think that Fox has the rights to the mutant characters...I think. Its some weird agreement that they have.

I don't see Fox following through with a Deadpool movie because it will be a commercial failure. The vast majority of the movie going audience hasn't a clue as to who Deadpool is and I don't think those who saw him briefly in Wolverine will be compelled enough to fork out money to see him in a standalone movie. Face it, Deadpool is a fanboy type movie and there just aren't enough fanboys out there to justify a $50-100 million movie. Sorry, but I just don't see this one getting off the ground and if it does, it will be a major bomb.
TheSuperM4n
TheSuperM4n - 9/25/2010, 3:46 AM
I hope there is no budget for it. I hope Tarantino does it with next to nothing. It is a fan boy movie, yes, but FOX is not stupid when it comes to making money( just when it comes to delivering)and the guys they are talking to have their own personal travel size fan base with them. Whether it Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino, their fans will see the movie regardless if they even give a rat's ass about the main character. A low budget, quick witted, Honzo sword wielding, Kill Bill style Deadpool with sharp dialogue is the movie of my dreams :) AND FOX WILL PROBABLY SMASH MY DREAMS WITH A DAMN SHAKESPEAREAN DIRECTOR TO SOW MY MOUTH SHUT

@ BatLantern28 Deadpool is not a mutant, just someone given a healing factor derived from Wolverine, courtesy of the Weapon Plus program. That aside, I think he is categorized with the X-men regardless.

@ AlexDeLarge666 Although I do not hate Daniel Way as much as other people do, if the movie does not get made, I hope they just use the script for a couple of arcs in the Way comic, or maybe just in a mini-series.
