During Disney's Investor Day, it was revealed that many international versions of Disney+ will receive a new addition called Star. This sixth brand will sit alongside Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, and National Geographic content on the streaming service, and looks set to serve as the equivalent of Hulu, a platform unavailable outside of the U.S.
Today, Disney has officially announced that Star is coming to the UK, and it will include movies and TV shows from Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios, and 20th Television.
A full lineup hasn't been revealed, but the first Star Originals will be David E. Kelley's Big Sky and Love, Victor, a loose follow-up to 2018's Love, Simon. A number of Die Hard movies will be included, as will TV shows like 24, Atlanta, Black-ish, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, Prison Break, and The X-Files.
With that new content comes a change in pricing; now, Disney+ will cost £7.99 per month or £79.90 annually. That's a hike form the current £5.99/£59.99 price tag, and as Star isn't optional, neither is the new subscription fee. That's not a bad initial lineup, but hopefully more Hulu content will join it, not to mention R-Rated franchises like Alien, Deadpool, and Logan.
