MULAN: Disney's Latest Warrior Gets Down To Business In Amazing New Trailer And Poster

Disney has released a new trailer for Mulan, and it sees the iconic warrior getting down to business! However, this grounded version of the classic tale will clearly be very different to the cartoon...

Mulan is considered a classic by the majority of Disney fans, but the live-action adaptation is taking the story down a far more realistic route, hence why many beloved characters and elements look set to fall by the wayside (talkative dragon Mushu sadly appears to be among the casualties).

There is, however, a nod to the original movie with the score that's used in this latest sneak peek - although it has already been confirmed that those classic songs will just be instrumental here, as opposed to full-blown musical numbers. That's a shame, but easy to understand, especially as Disney wants to deliver something realistic...that appeals to the lucrative Chinese market!

Regardless, this trailer is pretty awesome and the action looks like it should be a definite highlight.

This new adaptation of Mulan is directed by Niki Caro and stars Liu Yifei as the titular warrior alongside Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee, Gong Li, Yoson An, Tzi Ma, and Rosalind Chao.

You know, that actually looks kinda epic and interesting. It's also not a complete remake by omitting the musical aspect of the original so that's a plus.

@Spidey91 - something to note: I haven't seen any of the recent Disney live action remakes, I just don't care for them regardless of their quality. The only one I watched and really liked was Favreau's Jungle Book.

@Spidey91 - I think Mulan has 1 of the best music out of all the disney animated films. Omitting the music is stupid IMO. Reflections and Make a man out of you are iconic.

I dont really care if it's not a "full remake" as long as they keep the "essence and characters" of what made the original great. For example I thought Lion King & Beauty and the beast were soulless cash grabs because they did nothing new. Then Cinderella & Jungle Book were great because they expanded on the original animated film but just omitted the music.

Then you get some terrible ones like Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, & Lion King. The "okay" one was Aladdin. The only problem I had with Aladdin is the titular character "Aladdin" was forgettable and didn't matter to the plot of the live action remake because they turned it into a "Jasmine & Genie" film.

They did go for the Phoenix. Idk what to feel about that.

@Vanillain - Pheonix but not a dragon.

@MrLuciass - In China, the dragon is a representation of men. The change to a Phoenix is because that animal correctly represents strong Women of China.

Disney back then messed up and mixed up a bunch of asian culture incorrectly. This version is supposed to be a little bit more culturally correct. The change makes sense to me, but we will all miss Eddie Murphy's Mushu

@mastakilla39 - That's exactly why I feel a little iffy about it. The draw of the character is how she breaks traditions and stereotypes. It would be thematic and downright epic if they gave her a dragon (not necessarily Mushu but akin to the same style as the Phoenix in the trailer).

It's either PRC strong-arming Disney with the strict traditional themes and symbols, or Disney not wanting to upset a large population... or both. /sigh

I have a feeling the witch and her storyline are going to tank what will otherwise be an awesome remake. Everything else looks awesome! (lack of Mushu aside)
