The first official promo still for Snow White has been released, and we can see this stirring up a lot of conversation!
The image was released to coincide with Disney's announcement that it has pushed its upcoming live-action remake back by almost a full year from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025.
While the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike (which prevents actors from promoting their projects in interviews) no doubt played a part in the decision, the prevailing theory is that Disney will use the time to revamp certain aspects of the story after some pretty intense backlash from fans of the classic animated film, and looking at this image, we wouldn't rule it out!
The still features star Rachel Zegler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) as the titular Princess surrounded by what look a lot like seven... Dwarfs? Most of them are significantly bigger than their animated counterparts, but they certainly don't resemble the "magical creatures" that were rumored to be added as Snow White's allies or the "bandits" that were spotted in those recent set photos (they could have been stand-ins, or the snaps were faked after all).
Happy, Doc, Grumpy, Dopey, Bashful, Sleepy, and Sneezy are clearly going to be brought to life via CGI, but we can't imagine many fans getting on board with these character designs.
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released back in 1937, and was Disney’s first feature-length animated film. More than 85 years later, the cast and team behind this live-action remake have promised an updated version of the classic fairy tale.
Snow White is helmed by The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, and is expected to expand upon the 1937 animated classic's story. The movie will feature new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land and The Greatest Showman), and will also feature Wonder Woman star Gal Gado as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as a new character named Jonathan.
The actors for most of the seven... non-dwarfs have not been announced, but we do know that Martin Klebba, who has been in all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, will play Grumpy.
It's also been confirmed that the movie will include a younger take on Snow White, which suggests that we will get some kind of flashback scenes that will expand on the origin of the title character.
