Kevin Feige Confirms DOCTOR STRANGE Will Show The Dark Dimension

Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous role in Doctor Strange may be a mystery no more now that Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige has confirmed at least one of the "colorful" alternate dimensions that we’ll get to see in the forthcoming movie. Check it out!

In the latest issue of Empire magazine, Kevin Feige talks more about getting Benedict Cumberbatch to lead the Doctor Strange movie and finally bringing the Sorcerer Supreme to the big-screen. In addition, the Marvel Studios President also confirms one of the alternate realms that we’ll see in the Scott Derrickson-directed adaptation which might indicate other characters that will appear.

Speaking about his first time meeting Benedict Cumberbatch to discuss the project some years ago, Kevin Feige said that, “After [Benedict] left, [executive producer] Stephen Broussard and I looked at each other and said, ‘I think Doctor Strange was just here.’” As for what makes the English actor perfect for the role of Dr. Stephen Strange, Feige explained how the character is “an arrogant neurosurgeon in Manhattan, living a very opulent lifestyle.” The producer continued,  “He gets into a horrible car accident and his hands, the tools by which he can do amazing surgeries, are mangled and destroyed. That starts his downward path, and that's why Benedict is such a great choice - you can go to the highest heights and lowest lows with him and he won't lose you.”

Though one might compare Doctor Strange’s origins story to Iron Man’s, in terms of the characters being arrogant and getting into an accident that helps them to become superheroes, Kevin Feige reassured that the Sorcerer Supreme’s upcoming cinematic debut “couldn't be any more different than any of the films that have come before it” in the ever-growing cinematic universe. “There are more things that lurk in shadows in this movie, perhaps, than our other movies,” added Feige, referring to interdimensional beings from which only Doctor Strange can protect humanity. While then suggesting that the tone of Doctor Strange won’t be Marvel’s darkest, even with vet horror director Scott Derrickson at the helm, Kevin Feige revealed one alternate dimension  that we’ll see. “We see glimpses of something called the Dark Dimension,” he said. “But if you were to open a Doctor Strange comic drawn by Steve Ditko, you would see the Dark Dimension is, in fact, very colorful in an extremely psychedelic way. Those are the things we're not shying away from.”

Given the Dark Dimension is where the supervillain siblings Dormammu and Umar were both banished to in the comics with the former later becoming ruler, could that be who Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is playing? And could Umar be the character played by actress Amy Landecker? Maybe not, especially considering Feige’s description of Mikkelsen’s sorcerous role, and also the fact that the producer said we’ll only get “glimpses” of the realm. However, there are several other mystical characters tied to the Dark Dimension like Dormammu’s niece Clea, so what do you think?

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange so far stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), Amy Landecker, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West), with Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Mads Mikklesen, and the long-awaited movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on November 4, 2016.

I see Cumberbatch's Strange tipping heavily into the meaner end of the arrogance spectrum, condescension and the like. Tony is more overconfident and quipy, but it stems from his insecurities and daddy issues.

Might be the best solo Marvel movie just yet! Seeing how much Fiege loves the character I wouldn't be surprised if the film delivers in a huge way.

I think it will be very hard for this movie to disappoint for a number of reasons.

Marvel has a formula success and I trust this movie. it's cast leads me to believe that even if this movie is sort of let's say "Batman Begins" the series will be great. The hardest thing with Strange is how he fits into the greater Marvel world, that will be the challenge with MCU as well.

@KurtWagner1225

Yep. Tony Stark was a loveable jerk before his accident. Now he's a lovable jerk with a heart.

I want to see early Strange be downright cruel. It will make his evolution into a collected Sorceror Supreme much more impactful.

@mancalledsting I belive he also had an American accent in 12 years a slave but I don't remember all that much.

@Jollem I mean that can be said about any big studio though , if there isn't profit in the movie they make then best believe they won't make another one...just look at Green Lantern and The Incredible Hulk.

Depending on the trailer Dr.Strange might overtake Civil War and BvS as my most anticipated cbm of 2016..but then I again by time that trailer comes out we all wouldve probably seen BvS already.

Actually I take the Incredible Hulk statement back, there's alot of reasons why Marvel hasn't made another stand alone for him yet.

@Jollem- Oh yeah, because Zack Synder and Kevin Tsujihara are making $250 million movies for charity. Do you even READ what you type?

He reads what he types but his only goal in life is to annoy MCU fans. As a Marvel/DC fan myself, we just have to put up with studio trolls like Jollem, Manti and so on. No way around it. If anything you just have to laugh at anyone that would constantly post comments that make themselves look foolish like RemyLebeau, Jollem and Manti. Its almost admirable to dedicate so much of your life to just trying to annoy people. Insecurity is the main reason behind someone for trolling which is why they feel empowered when people respond and get annoyed at them. They feel a sense of accomplishment that they can never achieve outside in the real world. Its both sad and amusing.

The suits at Warner are making DC films to make money. Fact.

The suits at Marvel make movies to make money. Fact.

Good thing we have people like Jollem to inform us of these important issues.
