GREEN LANTERN

Hal Jordan was born in Coast City. As a young child, he idolized his father, a test pilot who worked for Ferris Aircraft. At a very young age, he had to face his greatest fears when his father died in a plane crash right before his eyes.

His father's best friend, and his godfather, Allen, tries to consul him at the funeral.

"Hal, did I ever tell you how your father and I met? Before he was a pilot, we worked for the same construction company; I don't know if you knew that. Well, 1 horrible day, the site crumbled with many of us on or underneath it. I saved your father's life that day and we became inseparable. From that day on he would always introduce me as the bravest man alive. He was wrong, Hal, he was the bravest man I ever knew. I was honored when he asked me to be your godfather and I only wish my baby girl, Jade, was old enough to know her godfather. Your dad was a great man; fearless."

Despite his family's wishes, he followed in his father's footsteps and eventually joined the United States Air Force on his 18th birthday.

The 1st 25 minutes are spent on Hal on Earth as a regular joe.

Many years later, a dying alien named Abin Sur, member of the Green Lantern Corps, crash-landed his ship in the Californian desert. Having selected a replacement officer for his position, the power ring chose Hal Jordan for his ability to overcome great fear. The ring and its abilities were explained to him, and he inherited the mantle of Green Lantern. Acting as a galactic police officer, it was his job to serve and protect all life in Sector 2814. He would soon learn that there were another 3599 Green Lanterns across the universe, all monitored and empowered by mystical creatures called the Guardians.

Hal received training from some of the best the Corps had to offer, including drill sergeant Kilowog, and his mentor Sinestro. As Green Lantern, Hal Jordan patrolled the galaxy and took on many missions in space. He continued to spend his time at home working at Ferris Aircraft, where he romantically pursued his boss, the lovely Carol Ferris. He would entrust his secrets to a trusted friend and his jet's mechanic, Tom Kalmaku

Amon Sur, the son of Abin Sur, grew up to become a deadly space pirate.. Amon was angry with his deceased father. He felt Abin had abandoned him in favor of the Green Lantern Corps and decided to take his anger out on all Green Lanterns.

Under the command of "The Hidden One", he took part in many illegal activities from murder to slavery. He also managed to entice the services of the feared bounty hunter Shiro Nova by threatening his family.

One of the most feared assassins in Space Sector 2814, Shiro Nova killed without question or remorse. He wields many weapons with great skill, some very similar to Earth weapons such as the chained mace, swords and shotguns. Additionally, Shiro Nova is an excellent hand-to-hand fighter. His starship, the Sanctuary, is his home away from home, and considered as deadly as Shiro Nova himself. Indeed, it is held that to see Shiro Nova’s face is to see death.

Sur also gained the services of Lobo. Lobo is a Czarnian who enjoys nothing better than mindless violence and intoxication. Killing is an end in itself. He is also arrogant and self-centered, focusing almost solely on his own pleasures. Although, he proudly lives up to the letter of his promises, no more or no less than what he promised. Lobo is the last of his kind, having committed complete genocide by killing all the other Czarnians for fun.

Sur then allied himself with the Weaponers of Qward where they worked together to defeat the Green Lantern Corps. As part of their operations, they intended to create a powerful weapon system capable of destroying entire stars as well as the worlds that orbited such systems. Known as the Blind, the intention was to destroy Oa itself and bring Qward from the Anti-Matter Universe to take its place thus allowing the Qwardians to gain a base of operations to invade the universe.

A team of 5 Green Lantern's were blind sided, while trying to prevent the Blind from destroying the Earth’s sun; Jordan, Sinestro, Tomar-Re, Boodikka and Kilowog.

They were then brought on board the Sanctuary as prisoners and Jordan, without his ring, was set to face Shiro Nova. Despite Shiro Nova’s impressive skills, Jordan overcame the bounty hunter and was forced to kill him.

Immediately following Nova's death, Lobo steps in. On the brink of defeat Tomar-Re, Boodikka and Kilowag break out and, together, the 3 barely defeat Lobo who retreats murmuring something about never receiving a pay advance as per the contract.

After the battle ends, Sinestro makes his way there. The 5 retrieve their respective rings and free Nova's family, with his wife refusing to accept Jordan's apology as Nova was a man of 'honor' and was killed as that was the only outcome had he not been victorious.

The Green Lanterns were able to destroy the Blind generator. A massive wave of entropy erased the installation and Amon Sur was killed shortly thereafter, due to his failure, by 'The Hidden One' Thaal Sinestro.

He says to a dying Amon, " At least, when I killed your father, he went down fighting. It's no wonder he abandon you as a child. You're a weak little coward and you shall die with no honor."

GL2 '09

The Parallax entity is a space parasite that is the embodiment of fear. It was imprisoned within the Central Power Battery on Oa.

Sinestro begins the movie by trying to access the fear of the parasite, continuing his plight to destroy the Guardians and police the galaxy by taking violent action rather than passive reaction.

After Sinestro's plans are discovered early on, he is banished by the Guardians of the Universe to Qwardin the antimatter universe.

Parallax escapes the battery, having been fed fear by Sinestro and gained an insatiable appetite, compelling it to search for Sinestro to be fed more.

The power of Parallax and the intelligence of Sinestro are enough for Sinestro to find himself free from the antimatter, possessing a new, yellow ring, made of Parallax, itself. The ring renders the green rings of the GL Corps useless.

The ring uses fear, as opposed to willpower, as a power source. From there, Parallax and Sinestro find the most fearsome beings in the galaxy,

Sinestro looks to break the spirit of the GLs by attacking their homes. As he particularly hate Jordan, he and the Sinestro Corps take aim at Earth after destroying Oa.

The battle takes place on Earth and Jordan comes into his own as a true leader when he heads the formation against Sinestro.

GL3 '11

A few years have gone by since the Sinestro invasion. Oa has been rebuilt and the GL Corps continues to police the galaxy. Sinestro and his corps are among the galaxy's most wanted.

Nekron, ruler of Limbo, where the souls of the dead await passage to their final destination, draws his power from the souls and spirits there. He was banished, shortly after the universe was created, beneath Earth.

Nekron creates the black power rings, which reanimate the dead, and is collaborating with Hector Hammond.

Hammond was a bystander during the Sinestro war on Earth. He was caught in the middle of the battle and absorbed a portion of Parallax. As a human, he developed far too much knowledge. The history and fear and rage that was locked inside Parallax made Hammond extremely dangerous.

Hammond became a deadly gateway for Nekron to take control of.

When the Black Lanterns' power levels reach one hundred percent, he rises from the Earth, with Hammond as a powerful minion due to the Parallax absorption.

Nekron marches with his undead army, claiming the hunger plaguing him has not abated. Nekron is not a living being but just exists as an avatar of darkness from the beginning of the universe.

Nekron calls forth The Entity. The Entity is the white light given physical form. When Nekron strikes the Entity every living thing in the universe cries out in pain, this is because the Entity is what gave birth to life and all living things came from it. Nekron intends to kill the Entity and thereby kill every living thing in the universe.

Tomar-Re battles to his death, saving his closest friend, Kilowog.

Nekron's plans, however, are thwarted when Sinestro bonds with the Entity becoming a White Lantern.

In the battle that follows, the Life Entity eventually abandons Sinestro, refusing to be controlled by his ego, and bonds itself to Hal Jordan. Hal turns the power of The Entity on Hammond, Nekron's link to the living world and, in his final act before his own death, kills Hammond, resulting in the defeat of Nekron.

Hal becomes the Spectre, forever watching over all, and his ring finds a new carrier in Guy Gardner and John Stewart receives Tomar-Re's ring.

CAST

Hal Jordan
Bio
A confident flyboy with something to prove... To himself and to every woman he encounters. He is the ultimate hero, more so than Superman and Batman, whom we've previously been exposed to in prior films.

Played by
Michael Fassbender
Age as of '07
30
Known for
300
Bio
From Nathan Fillion to Wentworth Miller, Ryan Kwanten, Mark Wahlberg and about 4 others, he was the best choice. I was extremely hesitant to use him as he has become way too popular a pick on this cite however, this was before he hit it big.

Allen Scott
Bio
I hope it doesn't cause an outcry from geeks, but this was my nod to the original GL

Played by
Mark Valley
Age as of '07
43
Known for
Boston Legal
Bio
Simply, I just felt that he was the ideal Scott. It works that, when the ring looks for a knew bearer, he aged beyond the point of protector.

Carol Ferris
Bio
Trying to portray herself as confident and ready to take over her deceased father's business, Carol finds it increasingly difficult to run the company and take care of the staff accordingly, especially after falling for the brash Jordan, whom she can not carry a relationship with being his boss.

Played by
Michelle Monaghan
Age
31
Known for
The Heartbreak Kid
Bio
A great actress and an ideal look, she serves as the anchor for Fassbender's Jordan. For such a simple role this took me a long time to respectfully choose the right actress.

Tom Kalmaku
Bio
The best friend.

Played by
James Kyson Lee
Age
31
Bio
I went with the geek cred here. At the time, Heroes, and Lee, were very popular. He's a minor character that serves to give Jordan a reason to want to be back home. Jordan talks to him about everything.

Amon Sur
Bio
The pawn of Sinestro us described pretty explicitly in the outline. He would not look as 'clean' in the movie. He, like Boodika, need to look less like Sinestro.

Played by
Ben Foster
Age
27
Known
Hostage
Bio
One of the best and most underrated actors in showbiz. I landed on this actor and fell in love with the idea of him acting as the lead villain in the 1st movie.

Sinestro
Bio
Another one that's pretty well defined and needs no further description.

Played by
Lou Diamond Phillips
Age
45
Known
Numb3rs
Bio
I considered Gary Sinise and a few others but ultimately went with the dark horse pick of LDP. LDP is a very intimidating, underrated actor who always puts everything out there and performs every part with respect. As of '07 he garnered 13 different acting achievement awards.

Tomar-Re
Bio
Tomar-Re was a Xudarian, a race of aliens from the planet Xudar in Sector 2813. He was a scientist on his homeworld before joining the Green Lantern Corps and becoming the Green Lantern of Sector 2813. Tomar-Re became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members and serving in the Honor Guard.

He was close friends with Abin Sur, Green Lantern of neighboring sector 2814. He was also the first Lantern to meet Sur's replacement, Hal Jordan, and the two got along equally well. Tomar-Re not only guided him to GLC headquarters for the training program, but also provided valuable emotional support during this difficult time.

He grew to be an honored senior member of the Corps, but his later career was not without cost. The most difficult moment was during the Nekron crisis when the death god used the spirit of Tomar-Re's deceased father to attempt to sway the Lantern to surrender. Although tempted, Tomar kept to his oath and destroyed his father's spirit to continue the battle, much to his personal anguish.

Voiced by
Sam Neill
Known
Merlin
Bio
Listen to his voice and tell me he wouldn't be amazing behind the fishy lizard.

Boodikka
Bio
A powerful member of the GLC, Boodika breaks the boys' club and has a crush on Tomar-Re. Unfortunately, Kilowag hols a spot for her in his heart, creating a triangle.

Played by
Krista Allen
Age
36
Known
In 2005, she was one of the stars of HBO's Unscripted, playing herself as an actress who struggles to overcome her sex symbol status in order to win more serious roles. Allen is featured in Maxim magazine's Girls of Maxim gallery and was Named #70 on the Maxim "Hot 100 of 2005" list. In both Smallville and Mutant X, Allen played a woman who could control men with her sex pheromones. In 2001, Krista guest starred in supernatural TV series Charmed as "The Oracle" for three episodes.

Kilowog
Bio
The harded drill sgt of the corps. His tough exterior hides one of the most loyal and kind-hearted beings in the galaxy.

Voiced by
Tony Todd
Bio
With one of the most chillingly deep voices in Hollywood, the Candy Man is perfect for the powerful alien.

Shiro Nova
Bio
An elite assassin whose 'honor' always ensures completion of a given task. His only weakness is his love for his family.

Played by
Ernie Reyes, Jr.
Age
35
Known
TMNT:SotO, The Rundown
Bio
Reyes is extremely athletic and very underused. He would make a great impact as Shiro.

Lobo
Bio
The last fraggin' member of his species, having killed them himself just because he can.

Played by
Mickey Rourke
Age
50
Known
Sin City
Bio
This is before IM2. Rourke has the perfect blend of arrogance, grittiness, and muscle to play Lobo as a side note in the movie. I don't think he should star as him in a solo, although he has gained a rep as of late and may be popular enough. On that note, these days, he may be too old to star in a solo. Durand is my solo Lobo these days.

Nekron
Bio
Nekron is the embodiment of Death and ruler of Purgatory. He draws his power from the souls and spirits of all those who have ever died.

Played
John Malkovich
Age
58
Known
In the Line of Fire
Bio
Malkovich is one of the best in Hollywood. His abilty to become a role is equaled by very few. As Nekron, he can bring that intensity and creepiness that he creates so well, he would be so memorable, Nekron could go down as one of the best big screen villains in CBM.

Hector Hammond
Bio
Hammond's role is drastically changed from his comic counter part, but well defined in the synopses.

Played by
Joaquin Phoenix
Age
37
Known
Gladiator
Bio
A great actor, if not a bit odd, Phoenix is, personally, one of my favorite choices in this cast. He goes from victim to sinister in the blink of an eye and, through his talents, could make that transition more believable than most.

John Stewart and Guy Gardner
Bio
The next in line

Played by
Jamie Foxx
Age
44
Known
Ray

Seann William Scott
Age
34
Known
The Rundown

John Malkovich and Joaquin Phoenix are better as Nekron and Hector Hammond than the 90s version of Norman and Harry Osborn, respectively.

Did you get that email I sent about the other VA ideas I had? I haven't gotten to the Shazam stuff just yet, I've been swamped with work. Although I was surprised by your turning Mary into the Spectre.

I don't remember getting an email I didn't respond to but I trust u either way. U didnt like Mary as Spectre? I thought it was bold and, if it were real, it would be discussed to great debate in comic chat rooms, or at least that's what I was Aiming for. I didn't want to just forget about her but thought that Billy should be the only Marvel. It makes him more speciel that way. Email me and we'll talk about changing some things if you'd like

Hold on, I never said I didn't like the idea. (And I'll send that email again, just in case.) I do like the whole "Gargoyles"-esque angle you have with that show.

- Michael Fassbender as Hal Jordan is a little odd. I never seen him do an everyman routine. But I could bite into it.
- I think I've seen Monaghan cast as Carol Ferris somewhere else, but I don't know. She would've been great back then, and now as well!
- As of '07 he garnered 13 different acting achievement awards. DAMN! I'm a little shaky on having a Native American play a role probably meant for an Englishman, but whatever.
- Krista Allen's pretty hot, but I haven't seen her act beyond Anger Management. Her resume as you described sounds fascinating (is Unscripted that show that Judd Apatow had involvement with?).
- Tony Todd is someone I don't see as Killowog, I apologize. Maybe someone like Henry Rollins (who voiced the character in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights two years ago) or even Dennis Haysbert (from the Justice League animated series). But he did well in Chuck in a similar role, so I'll bite the bullet here as well.
- I think Joaquin Phoenix would've made a neat Hal Jordan for some reason. But as Hector Hammond, I wouldn't mind one bit (Gladiator... that is all!).
- Jamie Foxx and Seann William Scott seem like the easiest choices, IMO.

Overall, a great cast! What do you plan on casting next?
ager
ager - 2/21/2013, 4:28 PM
As far as Sinestro goes I was looking at few and none were English. I know he has to exude intelligence but that doesn't equate British. I also wanted a very tough actor which is why I wound up with the dark featured LDP.

The irony for Allen is that on Unscripted, she mocked her own career by battling the fact that she was only ever seen as eye candy. Apatow had no involvement though.

So no rocTony? Damn

Thanks my friend. My next, which is almost complete, is Wonder Woman.

After that I've got 3 animated DCAU I'm colaberating with FlixMentalllo to fancast and 2 DCTVU for CW to complete my DCU revision

I forgot, that series Judd Apatow produced was Undeclared. Epic fail on my behalf!

I assume Wonder Woman will be set in the alternate timeline, or will it be modern?

I can't wait for the DCAU casts!

Jolt17 - 2/22/2013, 1:22 AM
- Right, Fassbender is still overused, but I think this can be tolerated a bit, since this is meant for a 2007 movie...still, though, I don't exactly see him as Hal Jordan! Terrific actor, but I've yet to see him as any DC character, so far. (Yes, over-usage and his role as Magneto aside.)
- Great Allan Scott, Carol Ferris - Monaghan was brilliant in the likes of Source Code as well, so I approve of that - and Tom Kalmaku. Loved that guy back in the Heroes days, and he clearly needs some more recognition.
- Amon Sur and Sinestro...wow. These are the spotlight of the cast, to me. Foster should be great in the role, while your originality for the Sinestro pick amazes me. That's really rare, and he's seemingly a great pick, as well. Kudos!
- You can't go wrong with Sam Neill and Tony Todd. Great picks, and they can surely bring something new to characters of their capacity.
- Malkovich is indeed one of the best on the field, while Phoenix as Hammond is another brilliant idea. 'Nuff said, I guess.
- Seann William Scott is also my Guy. Heck, why not!?

As usual, you've done it again, man. Very, very, well done.

ager: I see where you're coming from, and he does look like a great embodiment of militaristic qualities, but I don't exactly see him pulling off the "regular Joe" part of the character! Of course, there's no denying how talented he is, and I believe he can nail it with ease as well, but I just don't exactly feel it in the first place. Sure, that's just me, and it doesn't weaken your all-around brilliant cast at all! :)
