Alright, so for my first fan cast it's going to be for the first Flash movie. I tried to go for original choices, ones that people may not have thought of before. So, sorry, no Matthew Fox for Flash! Hope you like it!
To get the ball rolling, first we have Barry Allen!
This is a choice people may not be familiar with. Matthew Morrison is the star of Glee (egad!) Okay, yeah he's in a show about high schoolers breaking out into spontaneous song (which I find delightful btw), but the dude can ACT.
There was an episode where he went from completely normal to a 100% break down, crying, and yeah that convinced me that he would be a great Barry Allen and a damn fine Flash.
Morrison has the lithe, agile look about him, the way I imagine Flash would look. You don't want him too bulky, runners don't have bulk they are trim. Anyways, hate it, love it, I told you I wouldn't be going for old choices.
I see Barry as this nervous wreck who spends the film trying to propose to Iris. He even becomes Flash because he forgets the ring in the lab during the storm and has to go back for it. As he grows comfortable with Flash he becomes more confident and eventually proposes.
Next is Barry's love interest of the film: Iris West!
Jacinda Barrett is also an unusual/unfamiliar choice. Her best known role was as Joaquin Phoenix's wife in Ladder 49. Playing a supporting wife who's struggling with what her husband is doing? That's sounds like Iris West. She can also be tough as nails, which I think this reporter needs to be.
And what story would there be if not for a villain? For the first movie, I chose to go with the Weather Wizard.
A lot of people like David Tennant, but I really think Sharlto Copley could nail this role. I thought his role in District 9 was fantastic, and his portrayal of the raving lunatic H.M. Murdock in the A-Team was brilliant. He could be a serious threat to the Flash.
I see the movie opening with Mark Mardon escaping a prison transport vehicle and heading into Central City, where he kills his brother for the weather shaping technology. This murder is then investigated by Barry Allen.
His brother would be played by:
It would be a smaller role, but I really like Schneider and I think he could pull off the morally straight, genius-level Clyde. You may have seen him in Parks and Recreation on NBC.
Helping to guide Barry through his trip with the Speed Force would be somebody who's been there before, Jay Garrick. For him I chose Kevin Costner.
I like Kevin Costner, I think he is just given bad scripts. He could be the smart, experienced old Flash, and Barry's inspiration. He's been in Field of Dreams, Mr. Brooks, and Waterworld.
Well, we have the past, the present, so why not the future? I see this first film as Star Wars Episode I, only in the aspect of Wally West. He'll start out as a child and grow (be re-casted as someone older) through the three movies until he can take the reigns.
I'm gonna be honest, for this one I had difficulty. I'm not 100% satisfied with this choice, but I do think he would be good.
I thought Troye did a good job in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as bad as some people think that movie is, I liked it.
Now, for some smaller, side characters:
Barry's boss could be portrayed by --
Okay, okay, this might be typecasting, but I really like Frye as an actor and I think he wouldn't have trouble pulling this off.
I think for us fanboys, we deserve a few Easter eggs. One of the criminals I think Flash could catch could be Leonard Snart, before he becomes Captain Cold. Think like in the Incredible Hulk how there was Samuel Sterns before he became the Leader.
For Snart I chose Judd Nelson:
Judd Nelson is from the Breakfast Club and few episodes of Psych. It was reported on the set of the Breakfast Club that he would have violent outbursts, so I have no doubt he can handle a range of emotions for Captain Cold, if he were to come back for sequels.
At the end of the movie I think it would be freakin' awesome if Barry gets approached by a certain friend...
Green Lantern could find Flash, asking him for help. I envision this is how a Justice League film could be set up. One or two movies of Green Lantern and Flash solo, then together. Same thing at the same time with Batman and Superman. Then they come together with Wonder Woman and perhaps Aquaman for an epic movie.
Anyways, i digress, this was a fun fan cast to write and make. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
