Ok, so it's been two months since Warner Bros. has announced the hiring of Zack Snyder to helm "Man of Steel". I decided to take a crack at casting some of the important main and supporting characters before an official announcement gets made and my fun is ruined.
Clark Kent/Superman- (Obviously) the most important character that needs to be not screwed up. The powers-that-be have decided on a little-known actor that still has acting experience, which is probably the best way to go.
Armie Hammer- Hammer gave a great performance(s?) as the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's The Social Network. at 6'5, he's certainly the right build for the job. Combined with the fact that he was cast as Batman in George Miller's uber-fail $300 million Justice League, this makes him the hottest pick as of right now. No homo.
Garret Hedlund- Hedlund certainly has the right look for Supes, and he fits the bill as rising star, but the thing that worries me is his acting experience. The only thing I've seen him in is Eragon and TRON: Legacy, and while his turn in the former was certainly one of the bright points in that abomination, his nails-on-the-chalkboard performance in the so-so TRON: Legacy is what's sticking in my mind right now.
Lois Lane- The Daily Planet's hottest (tee-hee) reporter has always had a girl next door look about her in previous attempts, so I tried to replicate that in these picks.
Zooey Deschanel- I dare anyone who's seen 500 Days of Summer not to fall head-over-heels instantly in love with Zooey. She always seems to give off the vibe that she doesn't exactly know how attractive she is. Although she may seem a bit vulnerable for the tough-gal Lois, I'd like to see her give a different spin on the character.
Mandy Moore- Fresh off of a voiceover performance in the vastly overrated Tangled, Moore hasn't seen a live-action project in years. This doesn't stop me from giving her serious consideration as a leading candidate for Supes' squeeze. Moore could easily step into the confident, self-preserving Lois Lane if Snyder chose to take the character in that direction.
Jimmy Olsen- Olsen is not only the Daily Planet's youngest photographer, he's also one of Clark Kent's only confidantes. Although most won't agree, I think that Olsen is a pivotal character in the development of Clark Kent.
Ben Foster- Foster gave one of the scariest performances in the last 5 years as sociopathic cold-blooded cowboy Charlie Prince in 3:10 to Yuma. The dude is a chameleon. I have no problem seeing him donning Jimmy's glasses and camera.
Justin Timberlake- Although I'm probably gonna catch some shit for this, Justin seems to be trying really hard to legitimize his acting career. His turn as Sean Parker in The Social Network was unfairly overshadowed by Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield's performances, even though he stole every scene he appeared in. Now that I think about it, Eisenberg would be perfect for Olsen as well. Bad planning on my part :/
I'm tired of typing, so tune in on Thursday for Perry White, Jor-el, Martha and Jonathan Kent, and the villain.
