Justice League Outline Issue 1
Start out at a large facility at night. The facility has guards everywhere. We now focus on two guards as an arrow suddenly hits one and, before the other can react, a figure jumps out of the shadows and put in a sleeper hold.
Two other guards see this happen and shout something, but the figure quickly fires two arrows at the same time and takes out the guards. The figure makes his way to the control room, taking out any guards that he comes across. It is revealed that the figure is Green Arrow. In the control room, Green Arrow sees something on a computer screen that visibly shocks him, but the reader doesn’t see it.
Suddenly a figure flies into the room, punching Green Arrow in the gut. The figure is revealed to be General Zod. Zod roughs Green Arrow up a little, but doesn’t kill him. Zod decides that this is a waste of time, as Green Arrow is a mere human and isn’t worthy of the presence of Zod, and leaves Green Arrow, “to the Clown.”
The Joker appears. We then shift to Zod walking away, smiling, as Green Arrow screams in the background. The screaming suddenly turns into insane laughter. Zod takes out a phone and calls someone to say that Green Arrow is dead.
We shift to a funeral on a dreary day. It is Green Arrows funeral. It is a small service with only heroes and their significant others in attendance. While a pastor is talking, we focus on Wally West, the Flash, and Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, talking. They say something about how the world will find out about Oliver Queen’s death next week and how Bruce is going to remotely crash Oliver’s private jet. Roy Harper, the Red Arrow, steps forward to give an impassioned speech about Green Arrow. In his speech, Roy talks about how he will have his revenge on the person responsible.
After the funeral, Clark approaches Roy and asks him if he wants to join the Justice League, to which Roy “respectfully” declines.
We shift to a diner, with Roy sitting alone at a booth drinking a cup of coffee. He makes small talk with the waitress. During this, Bruce walks in to the diner and notices Roy and the waitress. Once the waitress leaves, Bruce reveals himself to Roy and comments that the waitress is cute. Bruce sits down across from Roy and orders a cup of coffee from the same waitress. Roy and Bruce sit in silence for a while before Roy says that Clark had already asked him and he said no. Bruce states that he is aware of that and continues to drink. Bruce then informs Roy that the League knows that it was the Joker who killed Green Arrow. He also tells Roy that the only way to get to The Joker is to join the League. Roy relents and says that he will join, but once he gets the Joker, he is out.
Shift to the same facility from the beginning. A very nervous computer tech is working with Zod standing over his shoulder. He informs Zod that it should be ready shortly, after some minor adjustments are made. Zod asks how long and the tech replies that it would take a couple of days, to which Zod reacts angrily. A voice in the background then tells Zod to have patience.
Shift to the Hall of Justice. Red Arrow enters the Hall for the first time and is welcomed by Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman shows Red Arrow around and, as they are making their way to the living quarters, they pass by a statue of all the league members, including Green Arrow.
Green Lantern walks up to them and starts to talk about Green Arrow to Red Arrow. It is obvious that Red doesn’t want to talk about Green Arrow, especially to Green Lantern, Green Arrow’s best friend. Red Arrow speaks in very short sentences tries to leave the conversation multiple times. Green Lantern then says that if Red is half the archer that Green was, then he will make a fantastic addition to the League.
Red snaps and yells at Green Lantern, saying that he is not, nor will he ever be, Green Arrow. Red Arrow then runs to his room, angry and sad. Then a very angry Batman enters the room. He tells Red Arrow that he isn’t the only one grieving over Green Arrow. He tells Red that GL was talking to Red about Green Arrow because he needed to talk to someone, and Red was the only person who knew Green Arrow like he did. Batman then states that if he ever wants to find the Joker, he will have to start making an actual effort to be a team member. As Batman is leaving, Batman and Red Arrow say this:
Red Arrow:
When we find Joker, I will kill him. There isn’t anything you can do or say to change my mind, he has to be stopped and this is the only way to do that.
Batman:
I know.
The scene shifts to the Daily Planet in Metropolis. Clark Kent is turning in his report on the new tires that the city buses will be getting soon to his editor Perry White. White comments on how Kent can take something so mundane and make it interesting. Clark just smiles before leaving Whites office. Photographer Jimmy Olsen is waiting for him outside. Jimmy excitedly tells Clark about how, with Luthor soon to be out of the picture, someone else has to take the top spot. Jimmy tries to convince Clark to investigate it for a story, but Clark says that it is too dangerous for him and enters the office he shares with his wife, Lois Lane-Kent.
Lane gives her husband a kiss and then laughs about Jimmy’s enthusiasm on the crime lord story. Lane suddenly becomes serious and tells Clark that he does, in fact, need to look into that story. She then says that Jimmy’s info is outdated, somebody has already taken up the role as the crime lord of Metropolis. She says that whoever this mystery man is, he doesn’t even operate out of Metropolis, but somewhere over seas.
Lois leaves the office and Clark calls Bruce, saying that they should meet up that night in the “usual place.”
We then go back to the diner from before. Roy is once again eating alone and flirting with the same waitress from before. The waitress asks Roy for his name and, after giving it, Roy asks for her name. She just smiles and walks to the next table. Roy smirks and shakes his head as he goes back to his meal. A couple minutes later he hears a bunch of guys at a nearby table talking to the mystery waitress in a very vulgar fashion. After the waitress asks them to stop several times to no avail, Roy intervenes. This leads to a fight, and Roy beats the crap out of them. He then looks at the stunned waitress, who can only mutter the words
Waitress:
Anna.
Roy:
Excuse me?
Anna:
My name. It’s Anna.
Roy leaves his number and a very large tip with Anna and leaves.
Shift to Gotham City. Bruce Wayne is sitting at his computer when Clark Kent enters his office
Bruce (without looking away from his computer):
You’re early.
Clark:
Faster than a speeding bullet, remember?
Clark and Bruce then talk about the new crime lord in Metropolis. Bruce points out that there have been several Superman sightings in areas overseas. Clark states that he was not at these places, to which Bruce lets out a long sigh. He says that if it wasn’t Superman, it must have been someone with his powers. And all the areas that the sightings were in are areas that were once home to the “pits”. At the mention of this, Clark’s face goes pale. He says that if they are working together it would be near impossible to stop them. Bruce says that he will leave at once to investigate. (During this entire scene, it is important that no names of the suspects are actually said)
Shift to the Hall of Justice. Roy is in a very basic work out room punching a punching bag. Wally comes in and they start to talk. In this conversation, I want Roy to start smiling more and start contributing to the conversation. Suddenly an alarm goes off. Wall speeds off, and Roy gets dressed as he is running.
Red Arrow arrives in the briefing room. The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Superman are already there, with Batman on tele-conference. Batman tells them that an android named Amazo is terrorizing Star City. Amazo is an android that takes on the powers of any superhero that it comes in contact with. Batman says that he will get there as soon as he can, but the rest of the League must face Amazo immediately. As everyone is leaving, Batman tells Red Arrow, who is now the last one left in the room, that when Amazo takes on a hero’s strengths, it also takes on their weaknesses. Red Arrow nods and leaves.
