Next Batfilm - Under the Red Hood

Next Batfilm - Under the Red Hood

In this article I will convey my feelings as to why the next solo Batman film should be based on Under the Red Hood...

I believe that the next Batman solo film should be based on the "Under the Red Hood", as we all know Ben Affleck's Batman is said to be an "older more seasoned Batman" who has been operating for numerous years. Why then would the next solo Batfilm feature Dick Grayson or even Jason Todd as the Robin to Affleck's Batman. It may even be explained in this solo film that the reason Affleck's Batman is rumored to be "semi-retired" and using Batbots because of the death of Jason Todd. So The next Batman flick should begin with a Tim Drake origin story, rather than anything else, with Tim Drake becoming the first Robin in years to Affleck's Batman; within months of his becoming Robin, we then see the reemergence of Jason Todd as Red Hood, which eventually beckons Nightwing back to Gotham. By movies end we could not only have an established history for Tim Drake, but also Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson; thats three Robins in one movie! And on top of that a semi-established Joker!

Fancast Side Note... I would like people to view this part as separate from the previous idea, I want people to tell me what they think of the idea regardless of what they think of the fancast... but here it is...

Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne aka Batman

Bryan Cranston as Jim Gordon

Age: 58
Height: 5'11"
Other Choices: Judd Law (Age: 41 , Height: 6'0")

Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth

Logan Lerman as Tim Drake aka Robin

Age:22
Height:5'9"

Steven R McQueen as Dick Grayson aka Nightwing

Age: 25
Height: 6'0"

Emma Watson as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl

Age: 23
Height: 5'6"

Benedict Cumberatch as Joker

Age: 37
Height: 6'0"
Other Choices: Matt Smith, James Franco

And although I know many people think Jensen Ackles would be best...

He is already 36 years old...maybe in 2001 he would have been perfect but now...not so much

so my choice is

David Henrie as Jason Todd aka Red Hood

Age: 24
Height: 5'11"
Other Choices:

Alex Pettyfer - Age: 23 Height: 5'11" (Kind of Leaning Here after consideration)

Lucas Till - Age: 23 Height: 5'10"

Jean Luc Bilodeau - Age: 23 Height: 5'10"

The ages line up perfectly with each other and everything!

Really good fancast except for Todd himself. I would like to see an already established Grayson. Have Drake take up the mantle at the very end of the film though.

I think Todd should try to branch off in his own like Nightwingm when this takes place. Also I think Chace Crawford should be Nightwing, Aaron Taylor Johnson or Alex Pettyfer should be Red Hood and Asa Butterfield should be Tim drake

Top 6 villains DC should use next for solo batman films in no particular order

1. Riddler

2. Black Mask( hiring assassins like Deathstroke, Lady Shiva, Deadshot and
Merlyn the Magician to kill Batman)

3. Red Hood

4. Prometheus

5. Court of Owls

6. Azrael ( on a mission to kill Batman on orders by Saint Dumas)

I think the first should be this then Arkham Asylum/possibly City, just so we can see a bunch of villains, and then Court/Night of Owls.

I think Iwan Rheon would make the perfect Jason and Robert Sheehan would be an alright Nightwing.

Truly, the animated movie is better than the story in the comics. It's one of the best in the DCAU, which is saying something - but it's mainly because of how self-contained, far reaching, and impactful the story manages to be in 90 minutes.

So here's a few things I'm against...
Joker! We've had Jack Nicholson being f*cking awesome, Heath Ledger being lovably sadistic, Mark Hamill being a looney tormenter, and while the actors have been outstanding - one wants to see other characters be brought to the screen to be as memorable.

The Arkham games translated just about every villain perfectly - Mr Freeze being my particular favorite. Isn't it always awesome when Batman teams up with a bad guy, even if it's a temporary alliance? One of the cool aspects of Under the Red Hood is when Batman and Jason partner up, even though Bruce knows he can't be trusted, even though Jason is psychotic and vengeful. I think we can keep something like that in there, why not?

I think Robin needs to be a better developed character in the movies before any version of Under the Red Hood can be adapted. In the Schumacher movies, he's an angry young man who becomes a joke. This mantle has been around since Batman got his own comic book title. We all know the various Robins who've been around, but Dick remains the most important, even if he graduated literally 30 years ago. Jason was the angry and violent teenager who Batman brought in and tried to discipline for a very short time. Tim lasted 20 years.

Before you can have Batman working with the Justice League, he has to have had previously displayed his ability to work with others - he needs to have a Robin.

I think the cast is good. I also think that Batman Under The Red Hood as a first Batman film would be too soon i think a Batman prequel would be better first to show case Batman's rogues gallery. Also it would be great if the new Batman films would showcase some of the villains we have not seen on the big screen before. I especially love the casting of Bat Girl. I do think in my own opinion that Watson needs to be in a comic book movie.

No. They need to come up with something original, not just copy a comic/animated movie storyline. And it would fall flat with general audiences. The only Robin that most of them know is Grayson. There would be no emotional connection for anyone other than fanboys. Just having flashbacks wouldn't establish that connection. If they really wanted to go this route, there would need to be a movie that introduced Todd and then killed him at the end. But, change things up so that it doesn't copy the comics. Have someone other than Joker kill him (Penguin maybe.) And actually have Batman kill whoever killed Todd (I can hear all the fanboys whining already, but there are times when villains need to be killed.)

I will say that I do like the idea of Emma Watson being Batgirl eventually, if they can find a way to introduce her in a logical way without being campy or silly.

I like your idea about Jasons death being the reason Afflecks Batman uses droids and I think Batman shouldn't have a Robin in Batman vs Superman since he is still recovering from Jasons death.I thinks Nightwing should be in Batman vs Superman and in a solo Batman film bring in Jason as Redhood and maybe Tim who could become Robin at the end and also have Dick as Nightwing.

Your Cast
Batman,Joker,Alfred and Gordon are good.
I think Lerman is overused as Tim but he is still a good choice.
My choice for Nightwing is Garrett Hedlund and Lyndsey Fonseca as Batgirl but Watson is a decent choice.
I only dislike your Jason choice I don't think David Henrie is capable of pulling of Jason I think Paul Dano,Luke Grimes,Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Jake Abel
Would be a better fit for Jason.
Overall decent cast!

I do think that Jason will have recently died when BvS starts, similar to TDKReturns, and that Bruce will have turned to drones instead of partners. Superman helps him regain a sense of hope.

I think the Batman solo should be a Riddler/Clayface 'whodunit' story with Bruce learning to work with a partner again with Tim Drake (Lerman), whose origin we get in the movie.

I think the following film should be an amalgamation of Red Hood, Killing Joke (Barbara's paralysis), Death in/of the Family, etc, where we get the return of Jason Todd (Ezra Miller) and Joker, the original Red Hood.

The three films would have Jason's death and Batman's inability to kill (contrasted with Superman's ability to) as a running theme.

Also, Penn Badgley or Sam Claflin for Dick Grayson.

McQueen if they connect to the CWverse, which I doubt they will.

Bree Larson or Jane Levy for Batgirl.
