This is going to be a pirate-adventure-sci-fi series based mostly in our galaxy in the 24th century. The series will take place from the viewpoint of a science officer from Earth named Krystal Kay. Krystal’s team is composed of three other lower-ranking science officers: Calico Mosby, Gerard “Gerry” Parks, and Lynn Whale. While scanning a nebula in the Dexatine system, Krystal’s ship is attacked by a pirate vessel. Abandoning their ship by escaping in an escape pod, the team of scientists is left floating in space with few resources. Luckily, another ship soon passes by, this one bearing the letters “PHV” in large letters on the side. Unable to identify the ship based on Earth’s records, Krystal is wary when stepping out of the pod once inside. The scientists are greeted by a small, bear-like creature upon exiting their pod and are after shown to the bridge. The bear creature introduces himself as “Ted” Theodore Burr. Once to the bridge, the captain is introduced to the scientists. Krystal is shocked to find that Captain Pan Moon is only a boy of 16 years of age. Thus, the adventure begins.
After aiding Pan in one of his bounties to catch the pirates that attacked Krystal’s ship, the scientists decide to stay on board; they see this as an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the galaxy. Pan (as not before specified) is a bounty hunter, but he prefers to be called a PHD (a Pirate Hunting Deputy). Pan is an orphan that took to the stars after his parents were killed by pirates. After meeting Ted at the port on Gangreena, Pan began his pirate hunting ventures. Pan’s ship is called The Vengeance, which is a play on his revenge-seeking attitude towards space pirates; Pan often just calls her “V.” The series won’t be as simple as a “villain of the week” concept. Some bounties will require Pan to take down whole gangs of pirates and villains will recur. With that, Pan has made other enemies, including some enemies in the military of Earth. The series will be a good read for fans of sci-fi and swashbuckling adventure.

Characters:
The Crew of the U.E.S. (United Earth Ship) Barrie:
Captain Krystal Kay-
Born on Earth’s lunar colony, Krystal had always wanted to explore space ever since she was a little girl. Krystal’s father, Archimedes Kay, was also a science officer and was the first from Earth to ever lead a crew out of the Milky Way Galaxy. Krystal’s mother, Doris Kay, retired early from her escapades through space to care for her daughters. Krystal’s sister, July Winters, is captain of the U.E.S. Advent, a merchant ship for the United Earth government. Krystal is proud of her family and is never ashamed to speak of them. After the U.E.S. Barrie was destroyed by the pirate Bon-Khal, Krystal stayed aboard her savior, The Vengeance, under the command of Captain Pan Moon. Krystal is brave, highly intelligent, and very beautiful. At the age of 23, she is the youngest woman ever to have captained a science vessel and has received many awards in her field. Despite their seven year age difference, Krystal finds herself strangely attracted to Pan.
First Lieutenant Calico Mosby-
Mosby has always been Krystal’s right-hand-man. Together, the two of them have been through thick and thin. Mosby grew up in New York City (thousands of miles from Krystal’s childhood home), but moved to the lunar colony when he turned 18 and joined the science program. Mosby specializes in biology, zoology, and botany and knows millions of species from the various planets in the Milky Way. Mosby has always been a voice of reason and always tries to explain fantastic things with natural science. When the crew of the U.E.S. Barrie was taken aboard The Vengeance, Mosby was almost abandoned because Pan saw no use for a Biologist/Zoologist/Botanist on his ship. Krystal persuaded him otherwise and Mosby has become a valued member of The Vengeance’s crew. Mosby is two years older than Krystal and has received all but three of the same awards as she has. Mosby is irrationally rational, skeptical, and protective of his friends.
Dr. Gerard “Gerry” Parks-
Gerry is a veteran of the science program. At the age of 32, Gerry is the oldest active science officer. Gerry never took too much concern in advancement and has always been comfortable in his role as medical officer. In his ten years of service, Gerry has been a crewman for five different ships, the U.E.S. Barrie being his last. Gerry has a short temper, is a master debater, and is dreadfully sarcastic. Gerry never liked the idea of staying aboard The Vengeance, but he’s made himself as comfortable as possible. Gerry is a reliable comic relief with his constant back-and-forth with Ted.
Lieutenant Lynn Whale-
Lynn Whale was freshly promoted when she stepped aboard the U.E.S. Barrie. Whale is the youngest of the Barrie crew at 21. Whale has a very classic beauty, is shy to the advancements of men, and is in constant study to advance herself in the knowledge of her field. Whale is a book worm and is not too often seen without a book in her hands; her large glasses and bun hairdo don’t detour this. Whale is primarily an astronomer and acts as navigator to the Barrie crew. Whale was also almost done away with when she was taken aboard The Vengeance, but the revelation that she could cook saved her. As so stated, Whale is also a superb chef and that is her primary duty aboard The Vengeance (though she often helps in other aspects). Unlike Gerry, Whale has made great friends with Ted. The two are often in the kitchen together swapping stories from books they’ve read.

The Crew of The Vengeance:
Captain “Pan” Pantera Moon-
“No, not like Peter Pan. More like Pan, short for Pantera.” Pan is a human, but was not born on Earth. Pan is a native of the planet Wynyc, which is primarily home to humans and there are few other species on the planet; the few animals are insects and primates. Pan is the son of Andara and Cera Moon. Andara was a renowned merchant and had many dealings throughout the nearby systems. Pan had a twin sister Pandora that was his best friend in the world. When Pan was ten years old, a gang of pirates, led by Captain D’on, killed his entire family for Andara’s providing information to authorities of the whereabouts of D’on’s brother; Pan himself barely made it out with his life. Pan waded in his own misery for the longest time, all the while avoiding the authorities that wanted to put him in an orphanage run by the Wynyc Monks. Pan eventually turned his pain into rage and vowed to avenge his family’s death. Through the years, after serving as a crewman for many vessels, Pan became very skilled at managing a ship and, when he turned 13, he went solo. At the helm of The Vengeance, Pan became a fresh face on the bounty hunter scene. Many of his peers laughed at him for his young age, but he proved them all wrong when he brought down the infamously dreadful Jymen-X. Pan eventually sought out a First Lieutenant and it wasn’t long before he found Ted at the port on Gangreena. Now, at the age of 16, Pan has become a well-known, yet little-known, threat to pirates in the Milky Way. With the crew of the U.E.S. Barrie now under his command, Pan has become even more thorough as a PHD (Pirate Hunting Deputy), which he prefers to the term bounty hunter. Pan is very childish from any perspective. He’s very naïve, completely full of himself and equally cocky, his charm is never-ending, he believes the most ludicrous of superstitions, he finds reading not only impossible but unworthy of his attention, and he is eccentric to say the least. Pan admits the fact that he finds Krystal attractive, but he is much more interested in the slightly more age-appropriate Lynn (though she is a complete polar opposite of Pan’s eccentric nature). Everything else aside, Pan is friendly and is an all-around good person.
First Lieutenant “Ted” Theodore Burr-
Ted was born and raised on the planet Grizlanna. Grizlanna is inhabited by a number of bear-like species. Ted is a Braun, which the name is given to the short, brown species that lives in the mountains. It is in Braun tradition that the mother will abandon her young as soon as they finish nursing, so Ted grew up at a very young age. When he was three, Ted left Grizlanna to make a living as a merchant. Ted’s captain ran goods back and forth between planets for a good four years before he finally tired of it. When on the way back to Grizlanna, where he had decided that he was going to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a carpenter, he stopped at the port on Gangreena to rest for a few days. It was here that Ted met Pan and realized his true calling. Ted became Pan’s First Lieutenant, his cook, and his hetero life partner. When the crew of the U.E.S Barrie came aboard The Vengeance three years later, Ted was relieved to be done with his cooking duties. Now, Ted is able to do what he does best: laze around all day and relay the occasional order. Ted does like to read, which contradicts his captain’s beliefs, but he takes pride in being a book worm. Ted comes into conflict more often-than-not with Dr. Gerry. The two of them disagree on most every subject. Ted’s best friend from the Barrie crew is Lynn, who he likes to hang out with in the kitchen. Ted is mostly a good sport, but he can cowardly at times, he is very sarcastic, and is sometimes rude. Ted also despises being called “Teddy” because the name is usually followed up with “Bear.” Ted is well aware that he looks like a Teddy Bear and that his name is very close in relation, but he’ll kick anyone’s ass that makes the association.

The Pirates:
Captain D’on-
The good captain’s greatest crime was when he killed Pan’s entire family. Andara Moon had overheard a conversation between D’on’s brother and one of his crew; Andara used this information to aid authorities in capturing the pirate. The vengeful D’on didn’t take this too lightly and he killed Andara along with his wife and daughter (little does D’on know that Pan escaped). D’on is a native of the planet Aquaria, a planet where the air is so thick with moisture that it is inhabited by fish-like humanoids. What pass as “fish” on Aquaria are the humans that live in the far depths of the canyons on the planets surface; these canyons are the only oxygen-rich areas on the planet. Outside of Aquaria, D’on must wear a device over his mouth that adds moisture to the air he breathes. This device makes him look even more ghastly than his shark-like appearance already does. D’on captains The Whale, which on his world takes name from the giant humans that live in the deepest canyons. D’on is very cold, manipulative, and is one of the greatest swordsmen in the galaxy.
Captain Bon-Khal-
Before he was brought down by Pan, Bon-Khal was only really a second-rate pirate. In fact, his taking of the U.E.S Barrie was his most crowning achievement. Before taking the Barrie, Bon-Khal mostly pillaged space ports and mining colonies. Bon-Khal wasn’t the worst of pirates as he often spared the lives of his victims and only took as much as he needed. It was for this reason that he was often mutinied upon. However, his crew not being any more capable than him, he was never overthrown. Now, Bon-Khal has resolved to go straight after he is released from prison. Bon-Khal’s ship is called The Tortoise, as the shelled reptile being a considered deity on his home world of Bruni.
Captain Jymen-X-
This was the first pirate that Pan ever brought down. X is the worst of cutthroats, killing and raping wherever he goes. X has no doubt held a grudge against Pan ever since he was sent to prison. Now, after serving three years in a hellish prison, X is bringing his crew back together to go after Pan. X fancies larger women, so it’s no surprise that his ship is called The Fat Wench. X is a terribly ironic embodiment of the stereotypical pirate. X has a patch that covers his right eye, a false, cybernetic leg, which actually benefits him by allowing him to jump to the highest heights, and a hook for his right hand. X is from a planet that neighbors Aquaria called Junglair where the humans evolved from reptiles, which gives X his snake-like eyes.

I'm obviously going to incorporate more characters, but this is what I've come up with for now. I'm rolling some character ideas around in my head. For instance, I have an idea for a pinocchio/astro boy-like character that's an android who is a crewman for one of the pirates. This characer will be confused with his situation and at times will stray from his loyalty to his pirate master. I'm also going to create some military characters, some of which will be enemies of Pan's. I'll keep you posted!
