Back in 2009, I've decided to cast some of the major players in the DC Comics universe, however, this article features characters related directly with Superman only. The castings for other DC characters are either on separate articles or have not yet been posted. Not every character will be cast and not every cast may correspond with the current Superman reboot or Smallville TV series. Thanks. Anyway… enjoy!

NOTE: My fan cast is base primarily on the outer appearance of the actors/actresses because (naturally) I did not examine the acting ability of every single actor/actress.

The Good Guys

Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman

I felt that Brandon Routh has the potential to play a great Superman/Clark Kent if he jacks up a bit more and has a better script to work with than that of Superman Return.

Tristen Lake Lebeau as Christopher Kent

I personally despise the idea of Superman’s son in Superman Return (come on! Lois and Clark are not genetically compatible). Neverthless I think the Tristen is perfect to play the younger version of Zod’s son in the comic who gets adopted by Clark and Lois.

Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl

I actually really like Laura’s portrayal of Supergirl in Smallville so I decided to cast her. It’s only Smallville’s plot and script that are messed up (slightly).

Sean Faris as Superboy

I realize that Faris is 28 years old already but I really can’t find anyone else who is big enough and young (looking) enough to play a pivotal role like Superboy. I’ve never actually seen him act except in Yours, Mine, and Ours which isn’t much.

Kristen Bell as Powergirl

I personally think that she’s a little small (in all aspect) to be playing Powergirl but everybody else, I’ve already casted as another character (not necessarily in this fancast but in another fancast and I’m trying to avoid repeats…obviously). Thus, I am sticking to this choice. Note: Kristen Bell is only 5’1”.

Michelle Monaghan as Lois Lane

I think Michelle Monaghan is a great actress (I’ve seen her in a number of film) and I think she’s an old enough person and experience enough actress to play Lois unlike Kate Bosworth who was…how old when she played Lois? 25 or something…

Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen

I really like his earlier rendition of Jimmy Olsen in Smallville so I’ve decided to cast him as Jimmy. Plus, in my version of Superman, I don’t intend on making Jimmy a bumbling idiot. I do realize that Aaron is quite old though…

Frank Langella as Perry White

I really like Frank Langella and I don’t think he got his fair share of screen time in Superman Return. But because I think he’s a good actor, I’ve decided to recast him as Perry.

Kristen Kreuk as Lana Lang

I realize that she’s not Caucasian like Lana in the comics but I contrary to what many people feel, I actually like her portrayal of Lana in Smallville (the first couple seasons anyway) so I think she deserves a chance to play Lana on the big screen. It’s not like Lana would have a big role anyway.

Tobey Macguire as Pete Ross

I originally casted James Marsden as Pete Ross but then I realize (after seeing someone else cast Macguire as Pete Ross – forgive me, I don’t remember who) that Tobey looks much more age appropriate in terms of comparison with Routh. Plus, he’s not a bad actor (he actually did a good job in the first two Spiderman films).

John Schneider as Jonathan Kent

I want everybody to note: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE John Schneider’s portrayal of Pa Kent in Smallville and think that he’s one of the best things that happened to Smallville in its illustrious run. Sadly, he got killed off WAY too soon. Because I love his portrayal so much, I find it absolutely necessary to cast him as Pa Kent on the big screen version. (Note: I find whenever Clark is talking with Pa Kent in Smallville, it’s some of the best dialogue the writers can come up with)

Annette O’Toole as Martha Kent

I think she portrays Martha Kent beautifully in Smallville. I also didn’t want a very old Ma Kent like in Superman Return and plus she is a great pairing with John Schneider.

Julian Sands as Jor-El

I probably could’ve picked someone else to play Jor-El but I believe that Julian Sands has the potential to do well in Brando’s footstep. He doesn’t quite have the voice but I think he can hold his own.

Helen Slater as Lara

I’m not sure what to say here. I’ve never seen her act except as Lara in Smallville so thus she was the first person to come to mind when I thought about casting the character.

Ben Affleck as the Eradicator

I don’t particularly like Ben Affleck’s acting (though it’s not terrible) so I decided to cast him as the machine from Krypton. I think that’s a fair call.

The Bad Guys

Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor

While I didn’t think his portrayal of Lex was anything spectacular in Superman Return, I think he has a potential of being a heck of a lot better if he wasn’t portrayed as a person with a fetish for real estate. I think he’ll do very well with an evil, politician version of Lex.

Sam Witwer as Parasite

Don’t let me get started on Smallville’s Doomsday. It was dreadful. Neverthless, I think Sam Witwer had the right eeriness and creepiness to play Parasite. He’s not a terrible actor either.

CGI & Michael Ironside (Voice) as Darkseid

What can I say? He’s a fan favorite. That voice is precious…

CGI & Jon Cena (Voice) as Doomsday

I’m not casting Jon Cena for his acting ability. I’m merely casting him because he’s a big guy who can (with the right amount of CGI and make-up) play a menacing Doomsday worthy of the big screen. You just need him running around, showing some muscle, and screaming.

Lou Ferrigno as Solomon Grundy

Who disagree? Come on! Lou Ferrigno’s oldie-yet-jack muscles are made for playing the zombie Solomon Grundy. Lou is old, yet jack…perfect for a old, jack, zombie corpse.

Callum Blue as General Zod

I know what you’re thinking…Why not Clive Owen? Gerard Butler? Well, I for one, actually liked Callum’s portrayal of Zod. He did his best with what was given to him and I think (if he grows the beard/goatee) he has a potential to play a great Zod. Also…I see Gerard Butler as Hawkman…not Zod.

Ron Perlman as Mongul

I think Ron Perlman is perfect for playing Mongul. He’s big-ish (of course CGI is required) with just the right voice to voice Mongul. Plus, whenever I see his face, he just reminds me of Mongul.

James Marster as Brainiac

I think James Marster’s portrayal of Brainiac, made him one of, if not the, best villain in Smallville history. Of course if you want an authentic, bald, green Brainiac, CGI are required. But I think Marster can still be kept for voice too.

Brian Austin Greene as Metallo

I don’t particularly like Greene’s acting but because he already played Metallo on Smallville, I’ve decided to recast him. I think he played Metallo alright…there was just the right amount of creepiness (a little too much when it came to Lois).

Chris Gauthier as Toyman

I really have no idea who he is except that he played Toyman on Smallville. He definitely looks the part so I’m deciding to keep him as the Toyman.

Tom Welling as Bizzaro

I think Tom Welling does an okay job as Clark Kent in Smallville. Nevertheless, because I thought Brandon Routh looks more like Superman and acts better than Welling, I’ve casted Routh as the Man of Steel. But that’s no reason to not give Welling a role in a big screen Superman movie. Thus, I’ve decided to cast him as the uglier, more bizarre version of Superman which I think is a perfect fit for the wooden acting Welling sometimes give.

CGI & Brandon Routh as Cyborg Superman

Not much to say here. You have the guy playing Superman with CGI showing any protruding mechanical parts.

Angelina Jolie as Encantadora

I’m not sure why I gave such a big name actress such a small part. But because Encantadora is such a small part, I thought Angelina Jolie could just make a cameo as her instead of an actual role. Plus, I think she definitely looks the part.

Hmm, alot of yours pics aren't showing up. But interesting cast.

I'm kinda getting sick of seeing Routh all the time even though he's out of the running. I like it how you've got Tom Welling as Bizzaro, not sure he's a good enough actor to pull it off. :P

BTW, Check out my *AQUAMAN FANCAST*. Just click the pic below

Lee@ I don't get how casting Smallville actors for the big screen is confusing to anyone. It is Hollywood and these are actors. The public gets that. It's no different than the multitude of other television actors who also play roles on the big screen.

I am still looking for someone to please give me one example of Routh delivering a good acting performance. He was blah and showed no range of emotion in his delivery in SR, Chuck and the trailer for his new movie looks like the same uninspired performance. Talk about wooden acting...Thankfully, he isn't going to be cast for the new Superman.

Ranger14 @ Your whole comment says it ALL!

Routh's better than the whole [frick]ing cast of Smallville btw! ; P

Murdock @ Actually, latest news is... he's not out of the running, and rightly so!

There's way too much Smallville in here. Vanderhoot can't act and neither an the majority of the Smallville cast.

@Ranger- Scott Pilgrim, he was absoltley hilarious and by far my favourite ex.

RYDEN @ Lmao, VANDEROORT can act twice as good as your lover MEYERS! ; D

But your right, they shouldn't be in a Superman movie.

Great job! Routh is perfect for Superman! Just so you know, I was the one that cast MacGuire as Pete. I also had the idea of having Tristan as Chris(but in an SR seqel. He should have been Lois's adopted son after Zod's invasion of SII)> The only problem is that there's too many Smallville actors.
