After my last fan cast gained much praise, I've decided to fullfill the requests of many and cast more characters in the upcoming TITANS television series. Following @CherryBomb's suggestion, I've selected the Fearsome Five as the villains for season 1 of TITANS.
In order to maintain consistency, I've again used a set of quality assurance standards for casting.
The casting was completed by meeting the following standards:
-
The actor must be available. Not attached to any show beyond the year 2014/2015.
-
They have a solid range of acting ability.
-
They must have experience in a long run TV show, with fan following.
-
They must be physically fit and/or capable.
-
They must have a good reputation in the media.
-
They must fit the physical description of the character.
Lets Begin:
1. The Calculator- Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire)
Jeffrey Wright bassically played a Lite version of The Calculator in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. With much time to explore the character in season one of TITANS, Wright will be able to take his performance into a whole other level. Wright has the gravitas and experience to provide a geniune believability of being the main adversary of a young Nightwing. Being as The Calculator is a Batman villain, he may share a complex past with Dick Grayson, which he can use to develop calculated attacks on the young superheroes. No matter what role Wright plays, he always delivers his dialgoues as though his character has a thousand different ideas being synthesized in his brain as he speaks, this will translate well into the character of The Calculator.
2. Shimmer- Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones)
Yes, yes I did shed a tear when Rose Leslie's Game of Thrones character (spoiler alert) passed away last season. The scene stealing redhead was able to make a character much more relevant to the audience than the writers had hoped, simply through her dedication towards her role. Leslie has proven that she can potray a villain who struggles onto gray areas thanks to a moral compass that she can't turn off. This will prove to be an asset when playing Shimmer. Shimmer often struggles with being identified as a villain, as she often retires from her life of crime, only to return when necessary (i.e., to save her idiotic brother). Shimmer, much like Ingrid, was driven to a life of crime out of defense, as she felt isolated by her peers and was often tormented by her classmates. I highly recommend this casting.
3. Mammoth- Dan Ewing (Home and Away, Australia)
Although I haven't seen Home and Away, I hear most actors from Australia have a tradittion of appearing on the show before heading to Hollywood. Thus, to ensure Mammoth had his traditional Aussie accent, I took a look at Home and Away's cast. Much to my relief I encountered Dan Ewing. The actor has a large fan following worldwide. Physically, he is not far away from the requirements of Mammoth as Ewing stands at 1.83m, and is already very big. From interviews I have seen of Ewing, he is very charismatic and this translates onto his performances. The villain mammoth is commonly portrayed as a quite simple minded villain, who has in the past surrendered himself to a powerless Superman just because Superman said he should. Thus, even with his minimal experience in Hollywood, the Aussie actor is more than cable of portraying Mammoth and bringing a fan following with him.
4. Jinx- Dilshad Vadsaria (Greek)
Dilshad had portrayed the big-bad of the popular ABC Family show Greek for the entire run of the show. She helped Greek break records as she appeared as the first female of South Asian descent in a leading role on television. Dilshad gave breakthrough performances while acting amongst a very talented cast. Although she portrayed a villain, her ability to effectively portray (between the lines) that her character was doing "what she thought was right" made audiences sympathize for her character even when she purposefully made very immoral decisions. This ability will help her add layers to a character that is still mysterious to the general comic book reader.
5. Neutron- Tom Lipinski (Suits; Labor Day)
There's something very dark and twisted about Tom Lipinski- or perhaps that's just the aura he successfully gives off onscreen when he's playing characters that are emotionally inconsistent. The Josh Brolin look-alike draws in viewers initially through his dopperganger looks, but then fails to disspoint as he always delivers good performances. Appearing on Suits as the delinquent drug-dealer ex-roommate of one of the main characters, he portrays the multi-layered disturbed college grad in an extremely realistic way. This darkness and ability to deliver performances with more complixity than hoped- makes him almost near perfect for the role of Neutron.
About Neutron:
For those who are unaware, Nathaniel Tryon was a security guard working for a nuclear power plant when he gets caught in the meltdown of a nuclear reactor, turning his body into sentient nuclear energy that could only be contained in a special containment suit. After learning how to control his energy, and learning that the accident was allegedly caused and covered up by the U.S. government, Tryon killed those responsible for the accident and took up a criminal career as Neutron.
So what do you think? Thoughts and Comments are encouraged!
I wasn't too familiar with these villains, so do tell me if I should make any changes.
