Why I Think Ryan Reynolds Should Be In 'Justice League'

Editorial Opinion

I'm just going to put it out there. I dislike Ryan Reynolds as an actor. In every film I've seen him in, he's had a part in ruining it because of his performance (or lack thereof). His Green Lantern film was no exception. So now you're probably wondering "How does this lead to the opinion in the title?" (if you're not, please think it anyway for my sake). Well, despite the fact that Green Lantern was awful in every way, and Reynolds was awful in it, I believe that Ryan Reynolds should reprise his role as Hal Jordan for one simple reason: commitment.

If there's anything Warner Bros. has not done for their DC movies it's make a solid commitment to doing something. I think the right way to do this is the same way you get your friends to stop cracking jokes at your expense. Laugh it off. "Hahah. You guys are right, Green Lantern was pretty bad. We can do better than that". And then you make the commitment to do so. Bring your actor back, get a director that will kick his ass into playing the character right, and get people hooked into wanting to see him in a new and improved sequel.

What's good for the goose is not always good for the gander. We've seen 3 people play the Hulk to varied success over the past decade, and I remember not being the only doubter silenced by seeing Ruffalo's "Incredible" portrayal of The Hulk (see what I did there?) in The Avengers. But DC and WB, please remember, you're already rebooting Batman in Justice League. If you get a new actor for Hal Jordan, or replace Hal altogether with John Stewart or Kyle Rayner it's going to have a lot of setbacks.

Replacing Reynolds will only add to the weirdness. We're going to be put into a situation in which five to seven of the greatest superheroes of all time will need to work together. With the exception of Henry Cavill, we're going to need to get used to everyone in their roles. And If time is taken out of the film to explain who Green Lantern is it would be a damn shame. The same goes for replacing Hal Jordan. We would need to get into back story and all kinds of other things that would be completely unnecessary if they had just brought him back.

So yeah, you made a mistake. You dug yourself into a confusing hole by making an awful Green Lantern movie. But just don't dig another one. Going into the Justice League film with two established franchise actors will give it a much greater sense of familiarity, and a much greater sense of ballsiness. Hopefully you will stick to your guns, WB.

Thanks for reading.

I dont agree with you at all. And part of your argument is flawed the first hulk movie isnt part of the MCU. And i would also argue that The Incredible Hulk was not nearly as bad as Green Lantern. Also i personally would really like to see Parallax and Sinestro becoming evil done the right way.

I agree with @JokerFanHAhaHA

@Joker: Part of my point was that you could redeem how bad it was. It takes more than one person to make a bad movie, if the writing is good, and the director instructs him how to properly play the role it could turn out better.

@Jimmy: I enjoy The Incredible Hulk, I wasn't comparing the films, I was merely pointing out that there were various actor changes, and that doesn't always work.

@Friendly: I apologize for the lack of pictures. Maybe next time I write a bad article.

@Levitikuz: Lol thanks for the input.

Admittedly there are flaws in the article, and that it is an unpopular opinion, but it is just that. An opinion.

I don't think they need to replace Reynolds, but not for the reason you gave. I think he can do ok - I mean I'd rather see (or hear him, rather) as the voice of Deadpool whenever that movie finally makes it, but he wasn't horrible.

About on par with Brandon Routh as Superman. He can work in the role if they give him good material. What they need to do is forget everything that happened in "Green Lantern", apart from Hal becoming one, and with the origin story out of the way, they can move beyond "oh man! I can fly!" and into having conversations with his ring.

Eh.... not a great defense at all for keeping Reynolds. Sack him, he didn't play Hal like he should have and has now just soiled the public opinion of 'Green Lantern' in general.

Never hire a big name actor for a superhero. It stops being about the superhero and starts being about "(big name actor) playing a superhero".

And guys, chill the [frick] out a bit. Yeah, he wrote a shit article, but no need to tear him a new asshole for it.

Completely disagree. I'm sick of this "sequel can save eeeeett!" crap. Reboot the [frick]er.

Not a bad article, good points. But I really don´t want to encourage Ryan Renalds´holly wood career any further, maybe he has other talents like juggling that he can get into. bad bad actor. It wasn´t his fault the movie was bad, but it didn´t help.

As for the article, what that tells me is we need a couple of solo movies to introduce these characters. Or more of a commitment in other mediums, such as animated shows and features, comics like year 1 and earth one, and tv shows to promote them to the general public, therefore illustrating in the public imagination that these characters are every bit as cool as Batman or Superman.

with all that is weighing against reynolds (bad movie, bad acting, bad writing), i don't think commitment is a reason to dump millions into a project that in the public's eye will look identical to the bomb they already know.
i've never been a huge fan of reynolds, he's always just played a suave version of jason lee and has gained success from that.
they need to start fresh, even if they do a sequel (which i think they just need to reboot) they need a new actor, new writing team, new director...the works. i personally feel they need to just Incredible Hulk it and do a new movie that seems to tie with the original but doesn't. That way, maybe we can get a new design for the green lantern uniform, maybe something other than a full cgi suit. pick up with sinestro and see what happens.

i haven't seen safe house yet, i'll have to check that out.
