"X-Men Legends: Domino"

A fancast starring the X-Men's lucky lady.

Between 1996 and 1997, Marvel published a variety of miniseries and one-shots dedicated to different characters in the X-Books. These included Beast, Storm, Magneto's clone Joseph, Bishop and Shard's team the X.S.E., and one featuring the lucky lady of X-Force, Domino. It was written by Ben Raab and drawn by David Perrin.

This miniseries delves a bit into her background while having her race against time to save the man she loved: Dr. Milo Thurman, a scientist whose hyper-developed brain allows him to make greatly-accurate predictions, who had been in the custody of the U.S. government for some time, and had been abducted by Donald Pierce and the Reavers, who want to use his ability for world conquest by turning him into a cyborg.

Reviews of this mini haven't been kind, largely because the reviewers point out how the mini has a problem regarding plot holes, such as Pierce being alive after being slaughtered by Trevor Fitzroy in Uncanny X-Men #281. Here is one such example of a review: http://notblogx.blogspot.com/2010/03/domino-1-3-january-march-1997.html.

Here's a summary of the original miniseries:
http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/issues/showquestion.asp?fldAuto=1486

I, however, thought there was some potential in the story, and decided to salvage it by reworking a few portions of the story to make it cohesive and sensible. Thus, characters have been changed out, details have been added in, and hopefully this would make a decent animated action film. I put this under the umbrella title "X-Men Legends" because this would be the first of an hour -long anthology series. Onto this first entry:
-The script would be adapted by Raab, Chris Yost, and Gail Simone.
-The art style would mimic Perrin's (I have to say, he's got a great-looking...well, "look").
-Voice direction would be by Andrea Romano.

And now, our voice cast:

Minka Kelly as the voice of Domino/Neena Thurman

A mutant with the ability to alter probability--thus making her own "luck"--Domino has served with Six-Pack (a mercenary unit led by Cable), the original incarnation of X-Force (also led by Cable), and the X-Corporation. In the story, while trying to unwind in Rio de Janiero during Carnavale, she gets the news that her husband Milo has been abducted, causing her to set out to find him.
I chose Kelly out of inspiration for her role on the TV remake of Charlie's Angels. I believe she's got a sweet and sultry voice for this lucky lady (dangit, I used that term thrice!).

Lennie James as the voice of Dr. Milo Thurman

Dr. Thurman is a scientist (non-mutant) with an uncanny analytic ability: he is so proficient at analyzing historical trends of the past, he can make nearly 100% accurate predictions about the outcome of the future. This made him, according to the U.S. government, too dangerous for to roam free. Domino, then working for the NSA, was assigned to guard him. Somehow, Domino and Thurman fell in love and were married, apparently officially. Thurman had a thing for Dante's Inferno and called Domino "Beatrice." The two separated after a raid on the facility by AIM members, with Milo believing Domino had been killed during the altercation. He ended up in the custody of the U.S. government again, but in this story, is abducted by a third party with sinister plans....
I went with James for the same reason he was picked for my fancast adaptation of "Danger Girl: Revolver"--his recurring role on Human Target as the assassin Baptiste. I thought he had the right voice for a character like Milo, and that he and Kelly would have good vocal chemistry together.

Jon Hamm as the voice of Henry Peter Gyrich

We all know who HPG is and what he does. Here in the story, he oversees Milo's custody, and reprimands him for failing to report the events of Onslaught to his superiors. In my reworked version, it's a full-scale HYDRA invasion of the U.S. When he returns to Thurman's cell after taking care of some other work, he's astonished to find Thurman gone, apparently released by, according to the security system's AI, Gyrich himself.
I know he doesn't feature in the rest of the story, but for the time Gyrich is on-screen, I thought Hamm would be a decent voice for everyone's favorite government stooge--he did play a Fed in The A-Team film. Besides, Nightwing wasn't in the entirety of Batman: Under the Red Hood, right?

Phil Morris as SHIELD agent G.W. Bridge

Domino's former teammate in Six-Pack, Bridge (now a SHIELD agent) meets up with her in Rio de Janiero to deliver her the news of Milo's abduction, which he found out about using his SHIELD contacts at the facility he was being held in. (In the original story, Puck was the one who delivered the news, after poking around the files in Department H. This was one of the big plot holes I was referring to.) He offers Domino support for trying to find Milo, but she insists on doing it herself.
Morris is a very good VA in most of the roles he's done for comic book-based productions: Vandal Savage in Justice League/Unlimited, Imperiex in Legion of Super-Heroes, Jonah Hex in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, King Faraday in Justice League: The New Frontier. He also played a good John Jones/Martian Manhunter on Smallville. He could do Bridge justice.

Christina Hendricks as the voice of Dr. Monica Rappaccini, AIM's supreme scientist

Rappaccini here was used in place of Donald Pierce, with AIM (which also appears in a flashback)standing in for the Reavers. In my rework of Raab's story, she orders the capture of Milo so that she and the scientists of AIM can digitize his mind and turn it into a powerful supercomputer capable of predicting the actions of their enemies--allowing them to take control of the world. She ends up hiring Lady Deathstrike to supervise the abduction, and handle any who would try to thwart their efforts.
I went with Hendricks out of inspiration from her turn voicing Lois Lane in the animated adaptation of All-Star Superman. Her background in sci-fi shows and drama also helps. I read up a bit on Rappaccini, and felt that Hendricks would be perfect for voicing her.

Gwendoline Yeo as the voice of Lady Deathstrike

(Here, you have your choice of either her classic or modern costumes--let me know which you prefer in the comments section.) Deathstrike is recruited by AIM to oversee Milo's capture and fend off any resistance, and ends up in a prolonged fight with Domino, which resumes later on in the story.
I picked Yeo for two reasons--first, she voiced Deathstrike in the video game X-Men: Next Dimension, and second, she ironically voiced Domino in Wolverine and the X-Men. Two birds with one stone!

Tom Kenny as the voice of Pico

An old foe of Domino's who worked for the X-Force villain Tolliver, the dwarfish Pico was rebuilt as a cyborg by AIM (which was consulted by Lady Deathstrike) and sent to keep Domino distracted from their kidnapping of Milo.
Kenny's VA resume already speaks for itself, don't need a reason other than that.

Additional Voices
Nolan North, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Dee Bradley Baker as random Mandroids, installation guards, and AIM drones.

And just my luck, that is all for now. Tune in next time for my upcoming fancast adaptations:
-Transformers: Prime Directive and its sequel, War and Peace (based on the Dreamwave Productions miniseries).
-Godzilla vs Gekido-Jin (based on the 1992 Godzilla Color Special from Dark Horse Comics).
-Black Canary: New Wings (based on the 1991 miniseries by DC Comics).
-Iron Man: Legacy of Doom (based on the 2008 miniseries by Marvel).
-Firestorm: The Nuclear Man--The Animated Movie (based on Gerry Conway's original 1978 run).
-The Avengers: Emperor Doom (based on the 1987 Marvel Graphic Novel).
-Atomic Robo: The Animated Series.

Nice. No Olivia Wilde. I'm tired of seeing her and her gargantuan forehead cast as every other female in these fancasts

great voice cast. Id prefer the updated costume for Lady Deathstrike, myself. Though, ive never read the mini its seems as though youve improved it with replacing characters and minimizing the plot issues. itd be an exciting animated movie and i wish Marvel would start spewing some of your ideas out. With Domino, like Elektra and Mystique, theres so much potential. i cant wait to see the next Legends voice cast u do.

On that note, how bout a Dare Devil with a quick mini of Elektra similar to Batman Year One and the Catwoman mini. I'd love to see what you create

@ager
Maybe Daredevil: Yellow, or Elektra: Assassin? Let me think about that one. And to be honest--I've never read the whole mini other than issue one (which I found at Half Price Books). I read summaries of the remaining two issues to get the rest of the plot.

@CaptainKilgore
Remember, this is an animated feature we're talking about here.

Right. I forgot that. Most of them would be suitable for live action save for Tom Kenny and Hendricks.
