FANTASTIC FOUR Movie Writer Cites Tricky Nature Of Marvels' First Family

The Fantastic Four movie isn't exactly resonating with comic book fans heading into its North American release this Friday. However, Simon Kinberg says he's proud of the film and wants to make more installments. Do you plan on seeing the film this Friday?

Fantastic Four screenwriter Simon Kinberg admits that adapting Marvel's First Family for today's audience is no easy task.  However, he insists that he's proud of the finished product and wants to make future films with the cast of Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller and Jamie Bell.

"I am proud of it. It’s not a disaster. It’s a good movie. I find Fantastic Four a hard book to adapt. I think the tone is very tricky. It’s deceptively simple. Figuring out the comedy and the drama and the powers themselves are hard to fit into a tone that is as grounded as we wanted to make it. But I’m happy with the way that it turned out. I really love this cast, and I want to keep making movies with them."

Do you plan on seeing the film this Friday or has the marketing from Fox failed to convince you the reboot is worth seeing?

Nah, I'm just going to literally eat a 10 dollar bill since I figure I'd be getting more of my money worth than seeing this.

I'll redbox with a free redbox rental coupon, tho.

Uh oh comedy in a super hero movie, its like saying candy man to the DC trolls. Luckily I get free ticket because I saw ant man, Jurassic world and rogue nation. Get to see whether it's any good or the calamity in half expecting without paying.

In a world where Guardians Of The Galaxy has become an absolute phenomenon, I don't ever wanna hear someone say Fantastic Four is hard to adapt. Can't wait until Friday to finally see how it all plays out.

I am excited for the film obviously but it really doesn't seem to capture the tone of the comics whatsoever...

Maybe just because what what we have seen isn't very Fantastic?

Hopefully it feels more like a F4 movie than it looks.

I think "grounded" is the last thing the Fantastic Four should be. Over and over again we see that Superhero movies work best when you stick close to the source material at least in spirit. I'd love to see an FF movie set in the sixties and willing to fully embrace the absurdity of it all. I'd love a Wes Anderson take on the FF.

If you have to defend a film that isn't even out yet, that does not bode well for you...

Still optimistic about this since there hasn't been anything to change that. No reviews yet still bothers me

DaveT hit it right on the head. This idea of "grounded" cbm's a bad idea. We're not seeing the movies to see how close to real life you can make them so they are "believable". There's a reason we love the comics, they're GD comics. If these guys would just stick to source material and stop trying to make everything so believable they'd do a better job.

Fantatsic Four is tricky when you try to make their tone darker and try to shoehorn them into the X-Men universe

I really can't wait for Friday. I'm ashamed of myself for how badly I want this movie to tank. I used to be really apathetic but the more they defend this film while disparaging the source material, the more I want it to implode on itself.

I don't know how his rock organs work either...

Maybe they absorb liquids and leave no wastes to extrude.

Since that is our way of stopping infections and getting sick.

I mean Rock doesn't get sick.

*sigh*

My biggest concern/problem with this film is right there in his description.

"I find Fantastic Four a hard book to adapt. I think the tone is very tricky. It’s deceptively simple. Figuring out the comedy and the drama and the powers themselves are hard to fit into a tone that is as GROUNDED as we wanted to make it."

Fantastic Four really isn't meant to be a "grounded", or "serious" project.
It's an over-the-top, adventurous escapade!
Even the Ultimate run didn't seem particularly "grounded".
Shoot, they're called the freakin FANTASTIC FOUR! Honestly, how can you say that name without smiling a little inside?
It's a goofy, corny name, but that's okay! It's great actually!
It's exactly what they're meant to be.

I just don't understand how it's 2015, but some superhero movie's are still (UNNECESSARILY) trying to copy the tone of the Dark Knight and its "groundness" and "grittiness", and for some reason thinking THAT was what made it a good move?!?!

Whatever man.

Rant over.

Well I'd say interdementional travel is Fantastic...

As well as gaining the ability to create force fields, stretch, light yourself on fire and turn your flesh into rock is pretty Fantastic...

Let's hope it's decent.
