Kate Mara Reflects On FANTASTIC FOUR's Tricky Shoot, Bad Reviews & Sequel Chances

Kate Mara Reflects On FANTASTIC FOUR's Tricky Shoot, Bad Reviews & Sequel Chances

It's fair to say Josh Trank's Fantastic Four film hasn't gone down very well... with anyone. Regardless, actress Kate Mara (who played 'Sue Storm') still had a few positive things to say about her experience working on the movie in a new interview, one month after its release...

Sadly, Fantastic Four appears destined to go down in CBM history for all the wrong reasons - with rumors of studio meddling and the director's wayward behaviour dominating most headlines. Actress Kate Mara (a.k.a. 'Sue Storm') recently reflected on her experience working on the flop with The Times (via nzherald). Somewhat refreshingly, her responses didn't only focus on the negatives.

The former House Of Cards star began by admitting she still hadn't seen the movie - revealing that the overwhelmingly negative reviews had made her feel "a little gun-shy" about doing so. Judging from Fantastic Four's disappointing worldwide gross of just $156 million, it seems she wasn't the only person put off by them. She also called Josh Trank's reponse to the film "highly disappointing", when asked about the director's controversial outburst on Twitter.

Nevertheless, Mara insisted she still had a "good time" working on the superhero flick. "It was a tricky shoot," she confessed, "But you know... when you know when you're shooting it that a film isn't going to be what you want it to be (sic)? That was not the case at all." She also claimed the cast "really had each other's backs" during the film's (seemingly very troublesome) production, and singled out their bond as her own personal highlight. "That makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we'll ever make another one," she stated.

Few truly blame the movie's cast for its disappointing outcome. Regardless, they've all since moved on to better things. Mara will next be seen in Ridley Scott's highly anticipated sci-fi film, The Martian (which is currently picking up rave reviews at TIFF). Do you sympathize with her comments, or do you think she was part of the problem? Sound off in the comments below!

I would like to wife her.

So then I could one day become the owner of the Steelers and move the Steelers away from Pittsburgh in the middle of the night. I'll move them to LA.

Finally saw it on the weekend, and while it's definitely not a good movie, it's actually not that bad. It's better than the other 2 Fox FF movies, and quite a few other CBMs.

I like her as an actress, I still haven't seen Fantastic Flop yet, probably won't ever. But I'd like to see her get a chance at another super hero, maybe the House of Mouse can snag her.

How about Marvel snatches her up for Crystal for INHUMANS?

Really sucks for all the actors involved. Their next project needs to be twice as good just to make up for the career ditch that F4 left them in

Are people forgetting she's already in the MCU? Like really?

One of the biggest Marvel dickriders is fan-casting someone who's already in the MCU.

The movie is still in Theaters, so she has to still remain positive.Give it a year, and the floodgates will open, much like Garfield is doing right now.

Um are we forgetting we what Paul Bettany said about Marvel...

"They [Marvel] have a rule, that you’re not allowed to play more than one character in the Marvel universe," explains Bettany. "So, they broke the rules … they bent the rules slightly for me because Joss really wanted to bring the Vision into the film world, and he really wanted me to do it."

Source in case you bitch he never said it: http://www.businessinsider.com/avengers-age-of-ultron-how-paul-bettany-became-vision-2015-4

She's already in the MCU and there's no way Marvel would let someone from the shitty Fant4stic film have a greater role in the MCU. Evans got lucky because his shitty Fantastic Four films came out before the MCU existed.

Which is ironic how you want someone from the shitty films to be in the MCU. While I recognize shitty film doesn't equal shitty actor and actress, if you truly believe Feige and co would let anyone who had a major role in the Fant4stic film have a major role in a MCU film after all the shit that went down then your on acid.

If she plays someone else in the MCU, which she won't, I can't wait for all the brilliant tumblr fan theories that happen saying the character she played before was actually her character in disguise.

Anyone remember this piece of shit theory?

You must also missed the same actress that played Star-Lord's mom in GOTG and the lady that got Captain America autograph from TFA. or the guy that played a cop in AVENGERS and an agent in AGENT CARTER. So obviously, Paul Bettany wasnt the only exception.

And Kate Mara's role in IM2 was forgettable.

Maybe you should think thoroughly next time before you post, so this way you wont sound like someone that lacks common sense and rationality.

I'm sorry but where any of those actors or actresses a heir to a billion dollar fortune and 2 NFL teams?

While her role was forgettable, no way Feige would have her play another Marvel character after she just played Sue. He wouldn't want people to think those Marvel films are connected.

If any of those actors or actresses was on the [frick]ing poster for another Marvel movie inside or outside the MCU while the MCU existed, then call me.

It's similar to folks who want Natalie Dormer to play Captain Marvel, despite her minor role in Cap:TFA.

I find Levitikuz's dick-riding on someone who just simply stated who he'd want Kata Mara to be in the MCU kind of (definitely) pathetic.

Ain't like Marvel recasts people. Yeah, sure, they're not the biggest roles....but I can't really see anyone (but Levitikuz) screaming

"WE-WELL SHE WAS IN IM 2 SO NEH NEH NEH NEH NEH!"

Marvel has used actors to play 2 different role in the MCU before. The jail double for Ivan Vanko in IM2 is the same actor as the guy guarding Stark in IM 3 as he's tied to a box spring in Killian's lab.

Mara's role in IM2 wasn't any bigger than either of those.

SageMode - 9/12/2015, 8:55 PM
@levitikuz

If that was the case, Chris Evans wouldve been in the same dilemma after the 2nd Fantastic Four movie, despite it being made before the MCU began because the audience couldve made the assumption that those FF movies were in the MCU because they have an actor or actress that appeared as a main character in both franchises and are both properties based on Marvel characters. And given that INHUMANS comes out 4 years from now (which is the same time span gap between FF: ROTSS and CA: TFA) I dont see the difference.

But continue to grasp.

Look! All of the cast are great actors, they are not to be blamed or crucified. F4 should follow Spiderman formula. If can't go back fully to MARVEL, then work WITH Marvel. Only then future F4 films will be justified...

He has some pent up frustration. Maybe because he still thinks that Namor is an Aquaman rip-off or that he accused Silver Surfer for being a lame character and openly admitted that he didnt know anything about him afterwards. LOL

With all the behind the scenes bullshit that's went on at Marvel, if anyone really believes that Marvel would hire any of the 4 actors who played the Fantastic Four in Fant4stic, fine believe it but they would never do it.

But until they do...

Sympathize with Kate Mara? Why? The movie tanked, but as far as I have heard that had little to do with her–after all, the same article says she's turning up in Ridley Scott's The Martian so she obviously got other things going, unlike Josh Trank (which he may deserve).

Besides, I am reasonably sure she got a nice check for the work she put in.

So she's golden, and hardly needs out sympathy/pity.

This is just wreaking irony given your response to my comment on here. But i wont go into detail why. I might actually hurt your head to think about simple shit like that.
