The Horror! Simon Kinberg Says Fox Are "Figuring Out" A FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel

Don't get your hopes up for a Marvel reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise just yet! Writer and producer Simon Kinberg weighs in on plans for a sequel, and also looks back on disappointing fans with the first instalment as well as where he thinks it all went wrong...

A box office flop and one of the worst reviewed comic book movies of all-time, it's fair to say that the release of Fantastic Four didn't exactly go as 20th Century Fox planned. Now, while many of us have assumed that the studio would just give up on the franchise after they and Josh Trank pretty much killed it, it sounds like that 2017 sequel could still become a reality. "I’m really focused on the next one," writer and producer Simon Kinberg told MTV News. "I do believe there is a great ’Fantastic Four’ movie that we’ve made with that cast. So I’m gonna figure out what that is. We’re figuring out what that movie would be. I’d like that to happen." There's no denying that a great Fantastic Four movie could be made with that cast, but whether Fox are as keen as Kinberg after a $100+ million loss remains to be seen. Fans certainly don't seem to want one!

Speaking of the fans, Kinberg went on to reveal how he feels about letting them down with the reboot. "I was obviously disappointed," he continued. "I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know." No, it definitely wasn't unfairly treated, Simon. As for those behind the scenes issues we've heard so much about, he would only say: "I’ve been on plenty of happy movies that don’t turn out to be very good movies, I’ve been on a lot of unhappy, difficult sets that turn out to be great movies. There was a lot of attention on the process of making that movie. It’s hard, when you’re making a movie, movies are hard to make. It’s just the reality." Fair point. Now, good luck on making a sequel literally no one wants to see...

I remember people laughing at me for saying that Fox will never give up the F4 rights.

I like this, the tears of angry fans sustains me.

If they cared more about the fans than the the money, then they'd have no problem selling it back to Marvel Studios.

Oh I remember now, Fox was planning a shared universe. Wonder if that's still going to happen.

I don't know why we are still reading into comments like this. What else would he say. The movie is still in the box office, has pending international releases and a DVD/Blu-ray. Until those things are done anyone at Fox is going to say bullshit like "We are committed to the franchise".

What are the people over at Fox smoking?! They lost a lot of money with the F4 reboot.

No one is going to pay to see a sequel to Fant4stic. It's almost like Fox wants to throw money down the drain.

They had three chances to give us a great Fantastic Four movie, but have failed. At this point, they should sell the rights to Marvel Studios and just focus on the X-Men franchise.

Manu Bennet got arrested in Texas for assault. Has anybody written about it. Arrested in San Antonio following the comic con there.

@PeterSurfer I thought it was not that bad also, but it was still bad. But the final act was horrible and Miles' acting was craptastic. What kind of a final battle or battle was that? I can't believe the earlier FF movies were better.

I have no shame in saying I was one of the Fantastic 4 reboot's prior to its release. Even I will admit that the movie derailed big time after the first half (after the transformation). I still believe the movie had all the right ingredients (cast, writer and director) my ONLY concern with this franchise is studio interference.

Not surprising. Fan4stic was utter trash and bombed but Fox is committed to their shitty knock off of a cinematic universe.

Doesn't matter if Fox make a great sequel, people will not going to watch. Only 1/3 of terrible CBM's have a sequel and those had lower box office then the first movie.
If FOX is crazy enough to spend more money on a sequel, go forward, but it definitely a waste of money they could use on the budget of another X-Men spin-off.

So, if F4 have a sequel, will flop even more. No doubt.

This really doesn't make sense though, what are they going to do, completely rewrite all of the characters including Doctor Doom?

Unless he's thinking about a complete reboot

Of course. Fox aren't going to give up a comic property when they are at the hight of their popularity.

Maybe they'll release Trank's original cut, for free online. If it's a better movie, especially the final act, and it's free for everyone to watch (I bet it would be pretty easy to get it trending, millions of people would watch it), they could definitely make a box office viable sequel.

This just reeks spite. They would rather continue making films on a franchise they [frick]ed up 3 times in a row than just put their pride aside, and just give the rights back to Marvel where the FF would actually be done with care and justice.

Fox's plan: If it's broke keep running the damn thing into the ground until you hopefully strike oil. I mean oil is in the ground so we could possibly do it it is about as likely as finding a winning lotto ticket on the ground, being struck by lightning, and finally abducted by aliens all at the same time but we could still do it.

I want to see a sequel.

So there u have it, the "none wants to see" isnt true.

The cast is great as has potential, so with another director and writer, it could be a great follow up.

Has a successful sequel ever been made on a movie that sucked hard the first time?
The cast was just okay...it was just a bad movie with awful looks for The Thing & especially Dr. Doom. Ugh.

Fox will never sell the rights or give the rights back to Marvel out of spite.

You guys really believe Fox will give back the rights? After Fox had Daredevil's rights, made a shitty movie, gave Daredevil's rights to Marvel, and now Daredevil is one of the best TV shows on the air that Fox would give Marvel back another property?

Fox wouldn't give Marvel back a property Marvel would turn into a billion dollar film when Fox can't. It makes Fox look bad. Well looks worse then they are now.

Just like Sony was committed to Amazing Spider-Man 3 till well after its Blu-Ray release

Keep in mind The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned 704 million dollars worldwide. This movie will be unlikely to earn a quarter of that so Fox has much more a reason to make a deal with Marvel than Sony did
