UPDATE: FANTASTIC FOUR Rumored To Be Back With Marvel; First Movie In 2020

Yesterday's announcement that Fox had struck a deal with Marvel that allowed them to produce two TV shows led to many wondering what the latter got in return. Well, we may just have found out! UPDATE: Silver Surfer, Galactus, Doctor Doom included in deal...

Could we finally see the Fantastic Four back under the Marvel Studios umbrella? That's what Den Of Geek is reporting, anyway. According to them the deal is done, and in exchange for Fox being allowed to develop the Legion and Hellfire TV shows, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, The Human Torch - and presumably all characters associated with them - will return home.

This probably isn't that surprising given the critical and commercial disaster that Josh Trank's recent reboot became - but Fox did seem adamant that they were going ahead with a sequel, so perhaps they were just trying to throw people off the scent. DOG reckon this deal has been in the works for a while now.

Oh, and remember those mystery 2020 Marvel movies that were announced along with the Ant-Man and The Wasp news? Apparently Fantastic Four will be one of 'em.

This is only being reported as a rumor for the time being, but it does make a lot of sense. We'll update if and when any more information comes our way.

UPDATE: "Having asked for some clarification from our source, we understand that the deal Marvel have made with Fox - which will see Fantastic Four returned to the Marvel fold in exchange for the X-Men TV rights - also includes the rights to villains Galactus and Doctor Doom, as well as the Silver Surfer."

@Pasto

While i do agree with you, that it sounds to good to be true, it could also make sense on why Fox was able to greenlight the X-men shows since Marvel had to approve it

I've pretty much stopped caring about anything that has 'rumor' or 'reportedly' in the headline. If Marvel and Fox announce this officially, then awesome. Otherwise, I'm taking this with less than a grain of salt.

I hope they won't do another origin story, but then again... how would they fit them in the MCU without them suddenly appearing with powers?

I dunno... it's definitely possible and does make sense, but we'll see. Personally I can't stand the FF in any incarnation (comics included) so I really don't give a shit.

If true, it will be the back bone of the future phases. Just having villains like Doom, the Skrulls, and Galactus will be worth the wait. Just like Spidey, though, the pressure will be on get it right. For the most part, the MCU has done great, however.

@staypuffed

And that is the right way to do so. I am just saying that, do to how F4 is damaged goods, their X-men shows are not. And we all know that Marvel has tried to get back the rights for Silver Surfer and Galactus before in exchange of extending Daredevil.

They have said countless of times that they want their properties back. And since they cannot use the X-men as they want right now, do to the movie rights, why not do a colab (which the tvshow seem to be) in exchange for the F4 rights.

I don't really care about the Fantastic Four, but I'm excited to see what Marvel could do with some of the characters that come with the FF rights, mostly Doom.

If Ror reported it then it has to be true.... I guess Four and half years is long enough to wait so they can differincieate their FF franchise from Foxes Fant4stic ...
Also if this is true MCU could use Galactus and Silver Surfer!

@Pasto Is right, it does sound too good to be true. My guess is that Marvel didn't get Fantastic Four but got a few big villains instead. Fox probably kept Galactus and Doom, while giving Marvel Skrulls and any other one they wanted outside of X-Men major villains

The Sony/Marvel deal basically went like this, with rampant fan speculation following Amazing 2's release, then completely unsubstantiated rumors, then leaked semi-confirmation, and then eventually actual confirmation of talks and then a deal.

People are of course warranted in being skeptical of news that conforms so perfectly to the fantasies of fanboys, but it's not like dreams haven't come true before.

This could really carry the load once the core avengers have finished their run. The only thing that (if this is actually true) I'll miss out on that I always wanted is the moment RDJ's Stark meets someone one smarter than him in Reed. I wanted that scene

There's a twitter account that Marvel has created called @Marvel_F4_movie that is now unsearchable which is linked to Marvel.com and which went live not too long ago. It has 3 followers at the moment. This is the trail of breadcrumbs that I've followed which seems to corroborate this rumour.
